Pilates activates a lot of deep muscles, mostly those that we probably haven't felt or used before.

But being Malaysian, it activates ONE common thing - a deep hunger after a good workout! 😂

As someone who is new to Pilates, or have just kickstarted their Pilates journey, it's normal to feel confused and not feel some of the muscles your instructor is cuing. Even more common is that you don't quite understand why you feel your neck, wrist, lower back while doing the exercises.

💡 It may not be because you're exercising wrongly, and more so of understanding how to activate the right muscles for each movement.

Pilates is a 'process' about learning about your body and building a good foundation so that it can improve over time. And while some of the sessions would give you a nice 'shake & burn', other sessions would give you a mindful connection that masters full body coordination and self correction. 🧠

✈️ Whether you're traveling abroad for work or a holiday, it usually involves a considerable amount of waiting, with hours spent either sitting and standing.

While many people see sitting as relaxing, prolonged sitting in a sedentary position can create stiffness in the hips and spine and poor blood circulation, leading to aches like lower back and neck discomfort . 😣

What helps us manage this however, is to prepare and condition the body through exercises targeted to counter these effects. 💪

If you've ever experienced injuries, movement setbacks or issues - you may have noticed that it becomes more challenging to follow a full exercise routine without something feeling off. You may have undergone treatment and completed your rehab protocol, but you still feel certain movements trigger discomfort or pain, or you can't quite get the desired effect from your exercise, and you're just unsure of where to go next. 😣

💡 While the short term answer is just to rest and reduce movement, we know that this approach is not beneficial in the long run as being sedentary reduces muscle strength and one's fitness and energy levels.

Movement, with the right application and guidance, acts like medicine - it can help ease stiffness, and bring better blood flow into your muscles and joints so that you can start to work on an appropriate and progressive exercise plan that rebuilds your mobility and strength simultaneously.

Everyone's movement journey will be unique to their body and we don't believe in a one size fits all approach. 💪
