NS Matrix are the inaugural Men’s Malaysia D-League champions! The champions stamped their name in history by withstanding a late KL ASEEL 吉隆坡战斗鸡 fightback to take the 72-70 win.

Chan Yew Thung started the game on form, scoring seven to give KL Aseel an early advantage.

An unsportsmanlike foul by Jason Wee on Ooi Xian Fu turned the tide in NS Matrix’s favour as Ooi Xian Fu’s five points contributed to a 9-0 run that gave them the lead.

KL Aseel suffered a further blow as Chan Yew Thung was stretchered out of the game late in the quarter with a serious injury.

KL Aseel managed to cut the lead to one, but Hiew Jia Hao’s three secured a NS Matrix four-point quarter lead.

Hiew Jia Hao started the quarter with another three to set the stage for an excellent NS Matrix quarter as KL Aseel struggled against their opponent's speed and three-point shooting.

A Hiew Jia Hao fast break layup ballooned the lead to 22 before Foo Mun Lik took charge with seven points to cut the deficit to 18 at the half.

NS Matrix managed to push the lead back to 22 after an Ooi Xian Fu three at 5:46 before KL Aseel pushed in a better performance late in the quarter, with Lee Jing Hung, Lim Wan Seong and Maegan Mahadevan combining nine points to cut NS Matrix’s lead to 15 going into the final quarter.

KL Aseel kept up their run and finally clipped the lead to single digits through a Foo Mun Lik three with five minutes remaining.

NS Matrix’s offence turned cold, and KL Aseel eventually reduced the lead to only one through Lee Jing Hung’s basket with 32 seconds remaining.

De Wee Yiang missed a potential dagger shot but grabbed a crucial offensive rebound to force KL Aseel into a foul game with four seconds remaining.

Tan Chi Sheng converted a free throw, and Wong Thiam Mun’s prayer heave came nowhere near the rim, securing NS Matrix’s championship.

The Finals MVP was the small but mighty Hiew Jia Hao, who finished with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

KL Aseel gave their best, almost overcoming a 22-point deficit but just narrowly fell short in the end. Their best player was Foo Mun Lik with 22 points.

In an absolutely nail biting finale, it was NS Matrix coming through in the end with the 47-43 win over the top seed Johor Southern Tiger Basketball Team, earning the honour of being the first ever Malaysia D-League Women’s champions.

With Johor Tiger missing Tan Sin Jie, NS Matrix had the better first quarter as Hin Jia Wei struck seven points to help them to a nine point lead at the end of the quarter.

Koh Hui Ling’s three broke Johor Tiger’s seven minutes spell without a point, starting a positive run leading to a Khu Qian Qian’s three reducing the lead to five at the 6:18 mark.

Although Sammi Tan and Hin Jia Wei’s baskets stretched the lead back to 11, Johor Tiger utilised their full court press to cut the deficit at the half to seven thanks to Teo Shi Ni’s four points.

NS Matrix started the third quarter with a 7-0, establishing a 14 point lead, threatening to run away with the win.

Johor Tiger did not waiver and through their veterans, Yong Sin Lu and Tan Yin Jie began a comeback run late in the quarter.

Yong Sin Lu scored four points and dropped two assists to Tan Yin Jie who scored five to reduce the deficit to eight going into the final quarter.

Johor Tiger kept up their push and through Yong Sin Lu’s intense defence and several steals, managed to cut the lead to one at the 3:50 mark after a Yong Sin Lu basket.

It was a frantic finish as NS Matrix failed to convert their free throws allowing Johor Tiger opportunities to tie the game.

Unfortunately for Johor Tiger, Khu Qian Qian and Koh Hui Ling could not take their chances and Hin Jia Wei went on to sink two free throws to give them a four point lead with 4.2 seconds remaining to clinch the championship.

The Finals MVP was none other than Hin Jia Wei with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

It was a valiant effort by Johor Tiger without their key player Tan Sin Jie. Their top performer today was Yong Sin Lu with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 8 steals.
