Kuala Lumpur Weiqi (Go) State Team Selection Tournament Officially Launched
Kuala Lumpur, 20 December 2025 — The 2026 Kuala Lumpur Weiqi (Go) State Team Selection Tournament was successfully held today at the Kuala Lumpur Stadium, attracting more than one hundred outstanding players competing for places on the Kuala Lumpur state team for the upcoming season.
Organised by the Kuala Lumpur Weiqi Sport Association, the tournament is one of the largest and most representative annual Weiqi (Go) events in Kuala Lumpur.
The competition was conducted in a focused and intense atmosphere, with players demonstrating solid fundamentals, clear strategic thinking, and strong sportsmanship.
Distinguished Guests Grace the Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony was held in a dignified manner and attended by several prominent figures from the sports and Weiqi (Go) communities, who officiated the event and encouraged the participants:

The guests unanimously affirmed the importance of the selection tournament in nurturing young Weiqi (Go) talent and strengthening the state team development framework. They encouraged players to approach the competition with confidence and composure, and to continuously challenge themselves on the competitive stage.
Advancing Weiqi (Go) Development Toward Higher Platforms
The tournament was held at a time when the Southeast Asian Games are being actively contested in Thailand, with national sporting enthusiasm on the rise and Malaysian athletes delivering outstanding performances on the regional stage.
The Kuala Lumpur Weiqi Sport Association hopes that through this state team selection tournament, greater interest and passion for Weiqi (Go) can be cultivated among young players, while further strengthening the talent development system.
The aim is to encourage more players to progress steadily toward state-level, national-level, and eventually international competition, injecting new momentum into the long-term development of Weiqi (Go) in Malaysia.
