Happy Sabah Day!
Sabah’s independence day is 31 August 1963 🇲🇾🌴
It is commonly referred to as Sabah Independence Day (Hari Kemerdekaan Sabah). Sabah gained self-government from British colonial rule on 31 August 1963, shortly before the formation of Malaysia on 16 September 1963.
So the key dates are:
* 🇸🇧 31 August 1963 — Sabah gained self-government/independence from British rule
* 🇲🇾 16 September 1963 — Malaysia was formed, with Sabah becoming one of its founding states
* 🇲🇾 31 August 1957 — Federation of Malaya became independent
Interesting: Sabah’s independence date was actually the same day as Malaya’s Merdeka Day, although they occurred in different years.
