Alas, after 10 days of travelling, camping, learning, getting an ISA certification and of course surfing, Q`s journey comes to an end.

On this episode, he carried on surfing Desaru and other points in the area while meeting and getting to know new people. Giving him more perspective on what surfing truly means.

In the end, the trip was another eye opening adventure, not just because of the new breaks and points, but more importantly the new experiences and people that shared them with us. Making this one of the best Borneo Wave Project that we’ve ever done.

So, what is surfing to you?

Getting into the 5th leg of BWP, one can tell that we travel alot with our boards. Be it for flights or as a tent sleeping pad, we do use and abuse our gears. So a quality boardbag that can endure lazy airport ground crews, hours of land travels and being exposed to the elements is compulsory investment.

boardbag game has always been top notch. Quality wise, its on oar if not better than known brands in the game. Competitive prices and original innovations at every corner, makes them the ‘real’ innovator in surf travelling gears. Check out their proprietary ProShell technology and Snap On wheels on their Ultimate Impact Surfboard Bag, the world’s most protective bag.

We have known for a very long time and they have proven that they are a sustainable and responsible company. Thriving by working with and supporting the locals since day one, using environmentally responsible materials and providing the best hand made quality gears surf money can buy. Thats why we are proud to partner up with them for the up coming Borneo Wave Project V: Island Of The Gods surf film, where we promote responsible surf tourism.

The adventure continues South. To the originally planned Cherating.

Being the unofficial Surfing Capital of Malaysia, Cherating provides almost everything a surfer would need. The amenities, the vibes and that long mellow left point break. Later, a special guest joined us for the next leg of the trip.

Aron made it. All the way from Kudat, Sabah meeting us at Cherating, Pahang. Stokes multiplied and the spirit was high. Can’t say the same about the waves. Cherating was running on 1/2’ or flat. So as adventurers do, we went looking for waves.

Pelabuhan Point was about the same. At least surfable. Abang Zam was a great host and showed us the surf points at the Sungai Ular area. We even ran back up north, to Kijal, Terengganu. As there was a murmur of waves.

It is not within a surfer to complain about the waves. We entered into the lifestyle signing an agreement to let go of things out of out control. Moreover nature. The art of enjoying what is given is where we should thrive.

Not just another tourist attraction.
We keep it real 😎

After sharing the stoke for almost a decade, we’ve gone through the many ups and downs of the trade. It was not an easy road, rather a necessary one for the proper development of surfing in Sabah. Putting profit second, we stuck to our principles to provide a safe, professional, constructive and fun learning space for students to discover the thrill of surfing. 🏄🏽‍♂️

At Candywax Borneo Surf School, you don’t just get certified surf lessons. You get to see passion at work 🔥💪. Because here, we are ‘always happy to share the stoke!’ 🤙
