Freedive Tioman is the first freediving school located in Tekek on Pulau Tioman, Malaysia. We offer AIDA, Molchanovs and Apnea Total freediving education from beginner to Master level, coaching sessions and training facilities.

Meet our 2026 instructor team: Bo, Shan, Howie, Marine and of course our co-founders Stella and Kat.

We’re so proud to have this experienced, and passionate group of instructors join us again for the 2026 season!

Together, they bring decades of freediving teaching knowledge to the buoy- and even competition experience as Malaysian National Record holders!

But more importantly, everyone is teaching with patience, care and kindness - and only in small groups.

We hope you’ll all have an amazing time diving with us this year, see you soon on Tioman!

From jungle bathing to diving into the ocean. Our school is perfectly snuggled in between jungle and sea under a big canopy of trees.

We love creating a calm and relaxed atmosphere to set the tone for our dives.

We get many questions about passing or failing certain requirements in a beginner course, especially for depth.

Mostly those are there to ensure freedivers have a solid base for becoming competent buddies one day.

In truth, there is no real pass or fail, you will get a certification fit for your level that allows you to keep training.

While we of course understand the satisfaction of ticking all boxes (we have been there ourselves)- what it really is about is progress. And everyone starts at a different place: some are avid swimmers and snorkellers, some have not yet spent much time in the ocean.

Seeing someone progress from the first awkward duck dives or being a little afraid of the deep, to exceeding their own expectations and sitting on the ocean floor comfortably, is what we love to see and celebrate!

Instructors don’t just dive down and up to keep you safe and ask you how the dive felt.
We see ourselves more like underwater spies trying to decode every few meters of your dive.
We look out for body position, free fall, equalization, technique, emotional strain, comfort, dive time, contractions, etc.
Every little detail matters, and while we may not be able to fix everything in one day, we will troubleshoot every session with you.
Good dives do not just come with pure willpower. Achievements come from piecing all components together until the ex*****on becomes smooth and easy.

Make yourself at home below the surface! Many years ago one of our instructors reluctantly agreed to buy a snorkelling kit at their all-inclusive holiday resort and saw an abundance of coral and fish for the first time.

With that one look underwater, boom! A whole new world of exquisite underwater structures, sea creatures and quiet had opened up!

It wasn’t until later that they started freediving and became truly at home in that new world, but that very first moment will never be forgotten.

Aligned. No-fins is often called the purest form of freediving, as we rely on nothing but our own bodies to create motion. It is also the most technical discipline, demanding both mental and physical strength.

But once you begin, it becomes addictive — the resilience and confidence you gain from knowing you can dive into the ocean with nothing but yourself is powerful.

Meet some of the crew behind Freedive Tioman! Our instructor team is here to guide, support and share some fun with you- whether you’re doing your first dives or exploring deeper depths.

The monsoon winds are coming to an end and the island is showing its true beauty in glorious sunshine.

The first divers of the season - new and familiar faces- have already enjoyed soaking in the salty sea. We dived with turtles and sharks, reached new depths and also braved a few choppy days.

Come joins us the next months in our beachside classroom! We look forward to diving with you all again for our 10th year of freediving on Tioman!
