Our photographer Ariff Budiman Abdul Halim is currently sailing with the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) on a mission to break the blockade on Gaza. Our prayers is for the safety and well-being of all those on board and that the mission will succeed in opening a humanitarian corridor to the enclave.

This article explains why it is important that high-profile marathon swims be documented and reviewed by others who have done such swims and who have the credentials, pedigree, and integrity. In short, an authority figure or body.

By Brayden Suvari Guinness World Records is a name that everyone can recognize. Before the age of computers, the only way to know about who the world’s tallest man was or who had the longest fingernails was to peruse the Guinness Book of World Records. When I was a kid, I craved books littered wit...

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱:
The major flooding of 2021 has taught Malaysians a significant lesson about the importance of learning and being formally trained in basic swimming and survival skills during water emergencies.

The 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 (UN) and 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (WHO) have recommended that every human being should be equipped with the 𝟱 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 to help prevent deaths from drowning.

Are you interested to learn basic 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 to save yourself in deep waters?

With our unique and proven teaching techniques, even as an adult, you would be able to perform basic swimming techniques for self-rescue in deep waters in just 𝟰 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀!

This special programme is designed to help you build 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (self-assurance when in deep water) and to share you the techniques to 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺, 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆.

You will be exposed to, and be able to try out the 𝟱 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 to prevent drowning, with us. 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟰 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀!!

This special program is aimed at those who are 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 / 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. You will be taught basic swimming plus 4 floating techniques to always stay calm and avoid panic when in deep waters.

This programme suits people who are 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 (near drowning). 49% of our 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗺 & 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮 participants, since 2021, have experienced near-drowning situations and were afraid of deep waters. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘅𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.

At the end of this 4-hour programme, you will be able to apply the 'roll over / flip', 'uitemate' (float and follow), and 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟱 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 without assistance in a 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗹. You will also try out the 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲 / 𝗷𝘂𝗺𝗽 technique and a unique 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 that is 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗵𝗮𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 (suitable for adults and seniors), to conserve energy during water emergencies. More importantly, you will learn how to 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺 in deep waters via 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 techniques, and to stay comfortable and 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 in the deep.

𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗺 & 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮 kick started in 2021, recording close to 𝟴𝟬𝟬 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 from different backgrounds and from all over the country. Thank you The Star and writer Ming Teoh of StarLifestyle section for this very comprehensive coverage of the Terengganu Four Swims project. This is very likely the last of our media coverage.

Malaysian marathon swimmer who has pioneered four channel swim routes connecting the Terengganu mainland with the islands of Perhentian, Lang Tengah and Redang, aims to help other swimmers take on similar challenges in the country.

Our final swim in the Terengganu Four Swims series. We had good weather and calm sea. Everything went according to plan. One thing different that we did though was to start our swim by touching a rocky outcrop, as opposed to from a beach. Video editing: Zaidi Rizal

Jessica Kieras of Marathon Swimmers Federation wrote this piece about our project. Four years ago, we started this project with MSF at the core. To end it now with an MSF coverage is just awesome.

This is also the story of someone who didn’t really know how to swim, but learned– at age 32, and went on to create one of the most exciting set of new channel swim routes the sport has seen in…
