Penang Badminton โ€” Fight for Gold, Make Penang Proud!
The Penang Badminton Association (PBA) has introduced a Gold Medal Incentive Scheme to motivate badminton players representing Penang at the upcoming XXll Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) in Selangor to give their very best and strive for gold.
Under the incentive scheme, a player who wins a gold medal in an individual event will receive RM5,000, while a gold medal in a team event will earn RM10,000. The initiative is aimed at recognising and rewarding the years of hard work, dedication and sacrifice made by the players.
PBA Secretary Kah Kok Cheong said at a press conference today (12 Aug 2026) that earning a place on the Penang contingent is no easy achievement. Behind every representative lies years of hard work, perseverance and commitment.
He noted that some players are also carrying national team responsibilities in addition to representing Penang. As such, they should treasure every training session and competition opportunity and make the most of every chance to perform.
He also reminded some players that they may be unable to compete in the 2028 Games due to age restrictions. Therefore, he urged them to seize this opportunity, maintain a strong gold-medal mindset and give their absolute best throughout the competition.
PBA President Datuk Kah Kau Kiak said Penangโ€™s badminton team had reached the finals in four events at the previous Games, but unfortunately ended up with silver medals in all four.
He hoped the players would learn from the experience and use it as motivation to break through at this yearโ€™s Games, challenge themselves and fight for gold.
He added that with strong support from the coaching team and all parties involved, he believes the Penang badminton squad can perform at its best and bring glory to Penang.
Also present at the press conference were PBA Treasurer Datuk Ang Lay Heang, committee member Loh Eng Swee, team manager Eddie Yeoh, Penang state badminton head coach Razlan, and assistant coach Hairi.

Penang, 4 July 2026 โ€“ The Penang Badminton Association (PBA) successfully organized Durian, Rambutan & Mangosteen Feast at the PBA Office, bringing together committee members, distinguished badminton officials, and special guests from Korea for an afternoon filled with friendship, networking, and the enjoyment of Malaysiaโ€™s favourite tropical fruits.

The gathering was graciously hosted by Datuk Kah Kau Kiak, President of the Penang Badminton Association, who warmly welcomed all attendees. The event was specially arranged to appreciate the dedication and contributions of the PBA committee members while strengthening the close ties between badminton associations and valued partners.

Among the distinguished guests were Dato Chong Juong Chain, President of the Johor Badminton Association, Mr Aโ€™amar Hashim, President of the Perlis Badminton Association, Mr Zulkefle Mohd Nor, Secretary of the Perlis Badminton Association, and Mr Loh Foo San, Secretary of the Kedah Badminton Association. Their attendance reflected the strong friendship and cooperation shared among the state badminton associations.

The event was further honoured by the presence of special guests from P.LAB Korea, namely Nam Ha Lim, Kim Bo Weon, Lee Ji An, and Do Hee Jeong. They were accompanied by Sui Li Jing and Han Yong Nam, who served as the China translators, helping to foster meaningful interactions among all participants.

Guests were treated to an abundant selection of premium durians, fresh rambutans, and sweet mangosteens, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the afternoon. The feast was filled with laughter, lively conversations, and opportunities for guests to strengthen friendships while enjoying the rich flavours of Malaysiaโ€™s renowned tropical fruits.

The gathering was a resounding success, with everyone sharing memorable moments in a warm and relaxed environment. Beyond enjoying the delicious fruits, the occasion further reinforced the spirit of unity, mutual respect, and collaboration among badminton leaders, committee members, and P.LAB Korea representatives.

The Penang Badminton Association extends its sincere appreciation to all guests for their presence and support. The Penang Badminton Association was honored to welcome Mr. Kenn Lim, Talent Pipeline Development Manager of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), to Penang on 5 July 2026.
Mr. Lim shared valuable insights into BAMโ€™s Talent Pipeline Development Plan with our players, coaches, and parents. His session provided a clear understanding of the national development pathway, the importance of long-term athlete development, and the collective role that players, coaches, and parents play in nurturing future badminton talents.

Datuk Teh Kew San will always be remembered as one of Penang and Malaysiaโ€™s most distinguished badminton legends. Penang Badminton Association mourns the passing of a remarkable sportsman whose dedication, passion, and achievements brought immense pride to our state and nation.

A proud Penangite, Datuk Teh Kew San built an extraordinary legacy in badminton through his exceptional versatility and excellence across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Among his many achievements, he won the prestigious All England menโ€™s doubles title in 1959, represented Malaysia in four consecutive Thomas Cup campaigns, and captained the Malaysian team to historic Thomas Cup glory in 1967. His accomplishments on both national and international stages inspired generations of players and contributed greatly to the growth and history of Malaysian badminton.

On behalf of Penang Badminton Association, we extend our deepest condolences to his beloved family and loved ones during this difficult time. We are deeply grateful for his contributions, leadership, and lifelong dedication to the sport. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations and his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
