I DON’T PAY FOR KARATE

One of my friends asked "Why do you pay so much money and spend so much time running around for your son to do karate ?" Well I have a confession to make: I don't pay for Karate! I don’t pay for my son’s karate lessons. I don't pay for his mitts..... or suits or his competitions.

So, if I am not paying for karate, what am I paying for?

🔴 I pay for those moments when my boy becomes so tired he feels like quitting but doesn't.

🔴 I pay for the opportunity that my boy can have and will have to make life-long friendships.

🔴 I pay for the chance that he may have amazing instructors that will teach him that karate is not just about movement but about life.

🔴 I pay for my child to learn to be disciplined.

🔴 I pay for my child to learn to take care of herself.

🔴 I pay for my child to learn to work with others and to be a proud , supportive, kind and respectful dojo member.

🔴 I pay for my child to learn to deal with disappointment, when he doesn't get that score he hoped for, or fell during a move he has practiced a thousand times, but he still gets up and is determined to do his BEST next time.

🔴 I pay for my boy to learn to make and accomplish goals.

🔴 I pay for my boy to learn that it takes hours and hours and hours and hours of hard work and practice to create a champion, and that success does not happen overnight.

🔴 I pay so that my boy can be in the dojo instead of in front of a screen.

I could go on but, to be short, I don't pay for karate; I pay for the opportunities that karate provides my child to develop attributes that will serve him well throughout his life and give him the opportunity to bless the lives of others. From what I have seen for many, many years, I think it is a great investment!

More parents are becoming aware on the benefits martial arts training can give their children. If you are one of such parents, and are looking for a class in your area but can't find one, I'll hook you up with an instructor.

(Makeru ga kachi)
To lose means to win.

This is one of the hardest of all Japanese sayings for Westerners to understand, but its meaning is quite simple: don’t compete over foolish matters.

Sometimes, just staying away from a conflict is much smarter. Walking away from a competition or challenge can be the better decision.

This also reminds us about the self defense principle of ”To run is the best defense”.... sometimes avoid fighting is the best way to survive and save lives. Win or lose to survive and live.

When people want to learn self-defense, the first place they often turn to is the Martial Arts.

But is this wise?

On the surface Martial Arts often promote themselves as being great for self-defense. However, not all are.

Some Martial Arts are more focused on sporting skills, and others may not have the right techniques that will be effective in a real-world attack.

It's important to actually ask yourself why you want to learn self-defense?

Kihon-waza #1

The seiken-tsuki is a straight forward punch that involves the user constricting their muscles and striking the user with their body from the muscles flexes. The technique is a karate practitioner's straight punch, shot from waist. Seiken-tsuki is a punch with the first two knuckles. The punch is the first technique all karate-ka learns when entering the dojo.
