Pentecost. In the New Testament, the day that the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples of Jesus. Pentecost is the Greek name for Shavuot, the spring harvest festival of the Jewish, which was going on when the Holy Spirit came.

The apostles were celebrating this festival when the Holy Spirit descended on them. It sounded like a very strong wind, and it looked like tongues of fire. The apostles then found themselves speaking in foreign languages, inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost is a Christian holy day that celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit 40 days after Easter. Some Christian denominations consider it the birthday of the Christian church and celebrate it as such. Originally, Pentecost was a Jewish holiday held 50 days after Passover.

The purpose of Pentecost then is the introduction to God doing something He has never done before, that of filling the faithful with His Spirit. The purpose is that we become witness to His character, presence, power, and authority.

For the large majority of Christians, the Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost, from Old English gast, "spirit") is a member of the Trinity: The "Triune God" manifested as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; each Person being God.

In Christian Iconography, a dove also symbolizes the Holy Spirit, in reference to Matthew 3:16 and Luke 3:22 where the Holy Spirit is compared to a dove at the Baptism of Jesus.

Prayer

Prayer is an expression of your expectation. That expectation is powered by revelation. And it is that revelation that paints a picture in your heart of your what you are praying for.

Every time you pray, there must appear a vividly clear picture before you of what you expect. It is that picture that drives burden and gives you the right words to say.

You can't pray for a house or job that you have not visualized. You will simply struggle for words. The picture must be clear in your heart.

Where there is no expectation there is no commitment to prayer.

If you feel like something is long overdue, surely you are not going to pray half-heartedly for a few minutes and then get up to get on with your day. Let's be frank, that prayer will not bring you the results you seek.

You must have a revelation to have an expectation, and then you can start to pray. Without revelation, your prayer will be short and bland and not likely to bring you the testimony you hunger for.

Pray for revelation so you can know what to pray for.
