3 ways your negative relationship with food is showing up in your romantic partnerships 💔
1️⃣ Communication
If you have a negative relationship with food, you are probably used to being really secretive about it and that can leave your partner struggling to make sense of your words and behaviors. Things that aren't related to weight and your body are somehow now involved in conversations you have which just causes frustration, confusion and anger.
Not to mention, relationships require openness and vulnerability to work, so if you are hiding this from your partner, again, it just leaves them confused about your behavior.
2️⃣ The Bedroom
If you have a negative relationship with food, chances are you also experience low self-confidence, body dissatisfaction, and negative body image which can complicate intimacy. You find yourself completely rejecting s*x or doing it with the lights off which can put a strain on the relationship 😵💫
Food restriction can also decrease hormonal functioning, causing a decrease in energy, mood, and libido.
3️⃣ Romantic Gestures that Involve Food
A box of chocolates for Valentine’s Day, a night out to a carnival to enjoy rides and cotton candy, a date at a fancy restaurant...for people with a negative relationship with food, the mere presence of food can cause fear.
This again puts a strain on the relationship as these gestures build more emotional bonds between the two of you, so for you to reject the food, would be in a way rejecting your partner (yikes 😬)
In saying this, please do not lose hope that you can ever have a functioning relationship with a partner.
Your negative food relationship can’t rob you of that unless you let it.
But what’s most important is getting healing for yourself first because your relationship with you is the only one guaranteed to last.
That sounds like a bummer lol, but liking and caring for yourself = an increased likelihood of finding romance ❤️
What is one way you can start caring for yourself today? For me, I'm going out dancing tonight! How about you?
