I don't know how to color inside the lines.
Ok, maybe I do KNOW how.

But I find it incredibly difficult. And...perhaps more accurately, have no problem going outside the lines – just because.

Before you wonder where this is coming from, let me explain.

I invited my Thrive Circle clients to take part in a "play" challenge this month, to create time for and prioritize PLAY – not as a reward, but as a daily tending practice.

As part of that challenge, I sent everyone a paint by numbers set. And because I 📸practice what I teach, I ordered one for myself too.

It took my about 5 minutes to start going over the lines. Yes really.

And as I did, I started to pay attention to my thoughts as I did.

There were "shoulds" and maybes.
I should slow down.
Maybe if I was using the "right" size paint brush, I could stay inside the lines.

And then there were wonderings.
What if my allowing myself to go outside the lines was just an excuse. A way to keep myself from being "any good."

Was I self-sabotaging myself by not staying INSIDE the lines?

There were ALOT of thoughts.
And then I laughed.

Because friends, I like details. I like to plan. And I've discovered more and more that I benefit from structure.

But something else is also true.

I like to see the structure, the details, and the plan – and then choose to be ME anyway. To do things MY way.

Could that get in my way sometimes, yes. Absolutely.

But does embodying that truth allow me to be more aligned and true to myself. Yes. 100%.

I'm sharing this with you because my hunch is that maybe you do this too.

You know what makes you YOU. But you keep trying to "fix" or "manage" yourself to try to be something ELSE. To "stay inside the lines."

And the more fixing and staying inside the "lines" you do – the more the REAL you gets hidden. Hidden from others. But also, hidden from yourself.

Is this ringing true?

My nudge to you is to reflect and notice: what TRUTH about YOU might you allow yourself to acknowledge?

And what might it be like to stop trying to hide that truth from others? From yourself?

Share this post with someone who could use a nudge to color outside the lines.

I'm not big on Valentine's Day. I'm not sure I ever was (ok maybe I liked it in junior high and high school when it was fun to get a rose from a crush.)

Maybe it was teaching elementary school where we had a whole day of all things Valentine's where students had to make Valentines for each classmate, (or being a mom and watching my own daughter have to do the same).

I'd much rather receive flowers or be told "I love you" just because.

(Ok, now I'm starting to sound like a Valentine's grinch...) :)

Luckily my husband is pretty amazing at the "just because" type of love.

But there is another thing that bugs me about Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day relies on celebrating external relationships.

Let me be clear: those relationships are important. But so is the relationship to yourSELF.

Too often, we rely on the other people in our lives, to measure our joy. Our thriving. Our "success." And look, I get it.

But I'll also offer this: It is really hard (one might say impossible) to truly receive love from external sources, if we aren't filled up by self-love first.

I believe that self-love is a doorway to feeling more present in your life, more clarity, more fulfillment, and more joy.

So I created something super delightful and you are invited.

Join me this Sunday, February 19th at 10:00 am for Self-Love Sunday.

We'll spend the morning immersed in a yummy for your heart-body-and-mind yin yoga and guided meditation practice, plus journaling, reflection, and being surrounded by community.

This special event is virtual and FREE!

One of the things I know for sure is that when I’ve gone into myself with self-love, I’ve ALWAYS found what I need.

You can too.

You'll connect to your body with one of my favorite yin yoga explorations – to allow yourself to feel SUPPORTED (by a wall) in a soul nourishing way.

Yin yoga is my favorite practice to go inward. If you've never practiced yin (or yin on a wall!), you are in for a TREAT.

Are you in?

My very favorite dessert is a “gianduiotto con panna.” It is a thick block of hazelnut chocolate ice cream, surrounded by whip cream.

And while I devoured this dessert as a child, I now approach this scrumptious treat very differently.

Because eating a gianduiotto is an invitation to SAVOR.

To be present as the richness of the hazelnut. To be present with the lightness of the whipped cream. To notice how every single bite is its own moment of delight.

There is no racing to finish. And because of the thickness of the block of chocolate, I don’t even have to worry about eating it before it melts.

This idea of slowing down and being SO present that you are immersed in a moment – without rushing to “get to the end” – is something that takes effort and intention.

And, is not something most people prioritize during their day-to-day life.

I get it. It can feel HARD to be present.

But what if savoring was a key to thriving?

What might be different for you if you chose to prioritize the mini-moments in your life?

Like what it feels like to drink your morning cup of coffee or tea. Or the feeling of a hug? Or the pulsing of your heartbeat?

My hunch is that you’d feel more present, and more awake. You might even create space for gratitude, hope, and perhaps – even joy.

This idea and this practice, of tuning into your aliveness through your senses, so that you can live your life fully awake and embodied, is why I created the Savor Your Aliveness retreat in northern Italy on the Lago di Garda, October 7-14.

This is a red-carpet adventure through the senses – to reconnect to the aliveness that is within you.

There will be yoga, breathwork, guided meditation. There will be deep conversation. And laughter.

We’ll play on the lake and in the pool. We’ll explore (& eat gelato), hike & walk along the Dolomite mountains, and learn to cook a delicious meal. We’ll be nourished by scrumptious meals, and the power of community.

And for anyone that wants to add on a night in Venice, we’ll get to savor a gianduiotto con panna at my favorite gelateria.

There are 3 spots left for this adventure.

Reach out if you are ready to expand your capacity to savor.

Who needs a mid-week reset?

If you ever get caught up in what-ifs and uncertainty, I have the perfect exercise for you to turn to so you can stop the spin-cycle.

Here's a nudge from Inhabit Your Joy:

Grab a journal and ask yourself, What do I know for sure in this moment?

Make a list. Write it all down. Start with the facts. Notice what comes up, (and what doesn’t). Notice how you feel.

Repeat this process anytime you get caught up in overthinking or are spinning in uncertainty around a decision. Use it as a way to proactively be present, mindful, and intentional.

You can add “in this moment” to almost anything to bring yourself back to the present. For example, How does my body feel in this moment? What am I craving in this moment? What matters most in this moment?

When you become present, you'll get rooted. In the moment. Noticing what is here for you NOW, instead of thinking about what happened yesterday, or what might happen tomorrow.

Being rooted in the moment allows you to notice the three butterflies that are flying outside your window or the way your heart speeds up when you are doing something you love. ❤️

It is an invitation to feel the feels, and discern what is true in the moment, and where your brain is turning a moment into an epic novel of what-ifs.

Do you tend to get caught up in the what-ifs? Save this post so you can come back to this exercise whenever the need arises.

I do not always feel like I belong.

I've always felt a bit like a fish out of water. Like I never quite fit in. Like I was the anomaly.

But here is what I learned: My belonging – or lack thereof – was, is, and always will be, an inside job.

Much of my belonging questions lead back to my voice.

To the times that I used it – and was told it didn’t belong.
To the times I didn’t use it – and was told that I don’t belong.

My brain would be happy to make a list of all those times for you.

But honestly, those aren’t the moments that matter.

The true not belonging, was of my own doing.
My questioning. My doubting. My second-guessing. My hiding or playing small.

What I know to be true is: belonging starts within. 💜

And just like I’ve had a tendency to limit my own belonging, I've learned to show up for a different possibility.

To choose to ALLOW myself to belong.

And this true belonging – starts with a feeling that lives inside my belly. Inside my heart.

It is a knowing. A trusting. An allowing. Of me to be ME.

My sense is that I’m not alone in needing this reminder.

Maybe you also create walls or put up barriers that keep you from belonging?

👉 Here's an exercise for you. Play with noticing where and how you can ALLOW yourself to belong by starting with your heart.

First, notice, what does belonging feel like to you? Go back to a memory where you felt belonging. What did that feel like?

And then, what does your heart need for you to allow yourself to belong?

What does your voice need? What does your body need?

Today, I am inviting you to allow yourself to belong to the person that matters the most – you! 🌟

P.S. If you are ready to strengthen your sense of belonging and community, early registration is now open for my Nurture & Nourish You Transformational Retreat.

I'm going to say something bold. That might sound a bit strange.

Here goes:
I believe that you should take self-care off your schedule.

Instead, I'm a believer in T.E.N.D.-ing to your self as a state of being.

I've got four ways to practice tending for you.

T is for Truth. Be devoted to what feels true to you. Listen to and honor your body and what makes you uniquely you. Shed the “shoulds” of other people’s expectations and live into your core values.

E stands for Embrace and Embody. To embody is to personify. You have to embrace it into your being. That doesn’t happen in your head.

N is to nurture and nourish. Fill yourself with what lights you up, not because it’s a should but because it feels good. You fuel the self in self-care when you nurture yourself. Nourishing ourselves isn’t about losing something or getting away from something. It’s about cherishing ourselves and sustaining our joy.

D is for the delight in deliciousness. One of my favorite questions to start the day is asking what would feel delicious today. When you ask yourself that question out loud, it’s hard not to smile. Is it singing, calling a friend, dancing? The deliciousness is a reminder to be present today.

When you practice TENDing, it allows you to create and enforce boundaries, to claim your needs and wants without guilt or shame.

And don't we all need more of that? 💖

I walk you through the 4 steps of T.E.N.D. in a video training I created for .

This time of year, you may feel called to do some decluttering or some good old spring cleaning.

And it makes sense. When the seasons change, we feel the urge to make changes in our lives.

Decluttering is one of my personal go-to practice for getting rooted and allowing what matters to stand out - literally and figuratively.

Clutter builds up over time, which why this is a powerful regular tending practice to help you get rooted in YOU.

But your decluttering practice doesn't have to be an hours-long affair. Instead, I invite you to set a timer for 5 minutes and focus on one thing at a time and decide where it belongs (even if that is in the trash or recycling bin).

Bonus, consider repeating to yourself as you go, "I am creating space for what matters" or "I am creating space for me to belong".

It's amazing what a 5-minute decluttering session can do for your rootedness. By making space for what matters to YOU. 🙌

Grounded. Centered. Rooted. 🌳

I once had a client who described the result of her coaching journey with me as feeling like a redwood tree. She could be jostled but unmoved from her truths.

Being rooted creates a strong foundation. It is your starting point and your core. It is home 💜

Being rooted creates a system of nourishment and nurturing.

I know how easy it is to get pulled this way or that when life happens. Being rooted is like being tethered...anchored...connected...to what makes you YOU so that you can find your center even when life is "spinny."

In my book, Inhabit Your Joy, I share 12 nudges that help you get rooted. Choose one per day or whenever you are feeling the need for some grounding and centering.

Each "Be Rooted" nudge will bring you back home 💜

So often we seek out answers and clarity outside of ourselves.

We look for answers and truths.

For knowledge and validation.

I know this because I do it too.

But the truth is that you are your own best teacher. And your body has everything it needs and craves.

Practicing yoga is one of the best ways to get in touch with the truth your body has for you.

And it doesn't have to be a full-on yoga class, oftentimes one yoga pose is all you need to get in touch with your body.

In my book: Inhabit Your Joy, you'll find several nudges include yin yoga poses. And that's because they are so effective and simple to help get you rooted.

P.S. As a special thank you from me, after you purchase Inhabit Your Joy, you have access to VIP resources that will help you cultivate even more JOY from the nudges in the book. 💖

In the resources, you’ll find video training of my favorites practices to get rooted, get curious and get alive – including some delicious yoga poses that you will want to incorporate into your daily life. 🧘‍♀️

My heart SWOONED when I realized that the Thrive Circle turns TWO this month. 🎉

Thrive Circle was created at the beginning of the pandemic because it felt important to create space for thriving and community.

That need hasn't changed and so far, the Thrive Circle has helped over 50 women. 🙌

This week, Thrive Circle alumni gathered to celebrate two years of thriving and to share their success stories.

Here's what one alum, Christina, had to say about her time in Thrive Circle:

"I joined thrive circle because I was totally burnt out in my career and in life. I needed to make time for me and discover who I was and what I wanted out of my life. After completing 2 Thrive Circles, my life has totally changed. 🙌

I know my core values and I have a literal picture of my truest self. I write in my thrive journal every day and I’ve made boundaries with family and at work.
I’m still continuing my journey and love following Elena’s work!"

My heart swells when I hear from Thrivers like Christina and the turnarounds they've had in their lives because of Thrive Circle. 💗

The truth is, that if we've learned anything over the last two years – it's that there has never been a more important time to focus on thriving and community.

Our next round of Thrive Circle begins on March 22. Learn more and sign up to join us at link in bio or https://www.elenasonnino.com/thrive-circle

The Thrive Circle is one of my favorite ways to work with women. 💜

The structure and tools are designed to meet you where you are. Everything I invite the group to consider is something I've learned and used myself, to guide myself from survival mode and into thriving.

I've witnessed women use this journey to light their own path. ⭐️

To allow their needs and wants to become illuminated and PRIORITIZED.

To allow their truest self to be their guide and transform their lives, one step at a time. 👣

I’d love to help you too! If you are feeling called to join a community of like-minded women for a 10-week journey, you'll find the link in bio to learn more about Thrive Circle.

Psst . . . I have a limited number of Thrive Circle VIP spots open (only 4 remain!)

The VIP option individualizes your experience in Thrive Circle to go even deeper to allow you to start thriving and stop surviving.

In addition to everything included in Thrive Circle, you will also receive:

3️⃣ One-on-one personal coaching calls with me

AND

1️⃣ VIP ticket (a $600 value) to the Inhabit Your Joy LIVE event on Saturday, June 11 in the beautiful Virginia countryside!

I can’t wait for you to get to know yourself through self-discovery so that you can focus more on what matters and less on the shoulds, fear, and overwhelm. 💖

Reminder – our first virtual session starts on March 22. Learn more and sign up at https://www.elenasonnino.com/thrive-circle

Living life FULLY ALIVE 🌟

Wouldn’t that be delicious?

So many of us are not living life to the fullest. We are not thriving; we are simply surviving.

And it’s downright exhausting.

But it is possible. You just need to decide that you don’t want to be stuck in survival mode anymore.

To decide that you want to thrive 🙌

The Inhabit Your Joy book was born out of a desire to help other women learn to thrive.

My hope is that the nudges in the book (36 in total!) will lift you up and help you create your own path to thriving.

And not just thriving when life feels fabulous, but even on the hard and uncertain days. 💖
