Coral reefs are true underwater metropolis. Although they occupy less than 1% of the ocean floor, they home around 25% of all known marine species, from fish and rays to turtles and tiny invertebrates.

Diving in the open sea is the closest thing we have to exploring another planet. It is suspending yourself in zero gravity, where the noise of the world disappears and only the slow rhythm of your own breathing remains.

It is estimated that less than 1% of the global human population has experienced what it is like to scuba dive in the ocean. So do not hesitate and join this select group of underwater people.

If you are familiar with the shore dives at Sand Dollar Sports you know it doesn’t take to long to watch this family of reef squid 🦑.

You can see them hanging out in groups, sometimes 6 sometimes 12 and even 18, this groups shifts throughout the year and it can get smaller, larger, with younger members and only adults depending on the season. Sometimes they are curious 👀 and sometimes they are really 🙈 shy. But it is clear to all of us that they are very smart creatures capable of displaying many colors, lights and behaviors.

It’s a good morning for this chain moray.

The chain moray eel (Echidna catenata), often called the golden chain moray, is one of the most striking reef dwellers in the tropical Western Atlantic and Caribbean. Famous for its brilliant, high-contrast chain-link pattern, it stands out among morays for both its appearance and its unusual dietary adaptation.

They are often shy and you can see them hiding under the coral structures, but this one is out looking for a pray.

Look at this beautiful staghorn coral (Acropora cervicornis) growing at Chankanaab Bolones.

This animals are one of the most endangered coral species of the Caribbean, but watching it growing in the wild without signs of bleaching and at a depth close to 45 ft is not only a rare encounter but a hopeful sign for the reef.

Look at this young tiger grouper and how subtle he change color, they can go from all black to this light gray and white stripes. They are not the largest groupers of the family but they can get pretty big.
