Mexican 1000 Day 5: Finished the race in Cabo (again)! Last day of the race was especially meaningful! I got to navigate for my military veteran/war hero friend George! He drives like a pro and is a pleasure to be with in the car. After the first half of the race, Billy and East jumped in to finish the race in Cabo. Mike was in the truck in spirit. Billy, Mike and Kevin started this tradition back in 2013 as a way to get us all together each year (and to celebrate us all turning 50)! Billy and East stopped 10 miles from the finish to tow another truck that was stuck through the rough sand portion. And then the finish line after about 1200 miles. Billy officially told the crowd during the post race interview on stage that he is donating this truck to the Warfighter team. The Warfighters are veterans who provide fellow veterans a place to call home and adrenaline therapy among other things. So the military blazer is coming full circle and will be driven by military personnel again. As it should be. Nice work, Billy! Thanks to our team and the Warfighter team for another great race! See you next year!

Mexican 1000 Day 4: Yesterday was adventure filled. We drove the first part of the day without issue. I drove and East navigated. Billy and his brother Bobby jumped in for second special stage. About 100 miles in the rear shock bar broke (mysteriously) and took out the fuel line. Could not go forward. Got towed by a truck we had towed before (737) for 25 miles to pits. Fixed fuel line and removed rear shocks. Arrived at finish a bit before 1 am. Welding guys were graciously waiting. Reattached rear shock bar. And back at hotel at 2:30 am. Onward to Cabo!! Buenos noches!

Mexican 1000 - Day 3: So on Day 2, the other Military vehicle team blew their engine. We had dinner with them at the end of the Day 2. They are a group of military veterans who help other veterans return to civilian work. Their team leader served our country for 37 years. And one of their guys, George, served in Vietnam and earned 3 bronze stars and 3 Purple Hearts. He has raced Baja about 20 times on a dirt bike and driven 20 times in a trophy truck. They told us they wanted to continue on to the finish and support our team. So in addition to collaborating on our race support, we asked George to jump in our race truck since he had not been able to race before their truck blew. The look on George’s face when we told him how honored we were to have a veteran and hero drive our military vehicle was priceless. After the stage, George said it was a little slower but a lot more fun than the bikes and trophy trucks. Here’s to George and our veterans! And to East for providing George the Blazer Adventure experience!

Mexican 1000 Day 2: more adventure, less racing today! Paul driving, Billy navigating. Started without incident. Then 5 miles into the stage the steering went out completely. Steering box bolts had all come out. Got 2 bolts back in place and drove back to San Felipe. Bought more bolts and completed repair. Then back to the beach restaurant for late lunch and on to bay of LA by highway. Arrived around 8 in time for dinner at the finish line. Will be rested and ready for 420! mile day 3 tomorrow! Buenos noches!
