Nurse Sharks of Cozumel 🦈
Nurse sharks usually rest hidden away in a quiet nook of the reef. But on our last dive in Cozumel, this one broke the rules. She swam with our group for a full 10 minutes, escorting us, playing, and rolling over right in front of us. We had never seen a nurse shark behave like this before 🤯

Chac Mool Cenote 💎 Crystal-clear water, beams of light cutting through the ceiling, and ancient stalactites all around. Deeper down, the halocline blends fresh and salt water into a shimmering haze. It’s flying in silence 🤿

🌊 Cenote Chac Mool: Light Beams, Halocline, a Hydrogen Sulfide Cloud and Two Worlds in One System

Three water entrances (Chac Mool, Kukulkan and Little Brother) sit just meters apart. One day, two completely different dives.

✨ Sunbeams that pour in like a curtain on sunny days 🌫 A halocline where fresh and salt water meet
🟣 A hydrogen sulfide cloud, one of the most unusual sights in the cenote. Salt water lies beneath it, and the cloud creates the feeling of a ceiling above you
🦴 Fossils and stalactites
🌴 Wide, open chambers with a max depth of just 12–15 m
🤿 For certified recreational divers: two beautiful cavern routes, Kukulkan and Little Brother
🔦 For certified cave divers: routes beyond the cavern zone

📸 Good to know about photography: this is a rule specific to this cenote, which sits on private land: divers are not allowed to bring cameras underwater.

Photos and video are taken by a private photographer who works in this cenote every day and knows the best angles and the right time for the light beams.

Small groups and experienced instructors.

🌈🕳️ Casa Cenote After the Rain | Unreal Colors Underwater, Tulum, Mexico

The last weeks brought heavy rains across the Yucatán, and Casa Cenote looks like nothing we’ve seen before. 😳
The water has shifted through red, brown, green and yellow. And right where the water flows out of the cave? Crystal-clear, electric blue. 💙

Two worlds in one dive. Mystical, surreal, impossible to put into words. ✨

📸 Shot today. No color correction. No filters. Just what we saw underwater.

🔹 Casa Cenote, near Tulum, Quintana Roo
🔹 One of the few cenotes in the area suitable for newer divers
🔹 Mangrove, cavern and cave water, all in one place
🔹 A different dive every season and after every rain

Cenotes change all the time. Rain, seasons and water flow can transform the same site completely, so no two dives are ever the same. 🌧️

☁️🕳️ Cenote Angelita | Diving Through a Hydrogen Sulfide Cloud, Tulum, Mexico

Imagine descending into a perfectly round cenote and hitting a cloud under the water. ☁️

That’s Cenote Angelita, about 17 km south of Tulum. At around 30 meters there is a layer of hydrogen sulfide that looks like a thick, mysterious fog. Above it: light, trees, clear water. Below it: total darkness. 🌑

You go through the cloud and enter a completely different world, where your torch is the only light. One of the most unusual dives in the Riviera Maya, and unlike anything else you’ll experience in diving.

🔹 Almost perfectly round cenote
🔹 Hydrogen sulfide cloud at ~30 m
🔹 Dark, silent water below the cloud
🔹 A deep dive with limited time: planning and experience matter

⚠️ Deep dive, down to about 40 m. Advanced certification and a professional guide are a must, and you should be comfortable in the dark.

🐌✨ Phyllidia ocellata | Nudibranch Diving in Bali, Indonesia
Meet Phyllidia ocellata, a dorid nudibranch (shell-less sea slug) from the family Phyllidiidae. 🌊
🔸 Size: up to 35 mm, so you need a sharp eye and patience
🔸 Look: orange-brown body covered in white or grey stalked tubercles, with black rings around some of them
🔸 Rhinophores: orange-yellow
🔸 Range: the central Indo-West Pacific, common in Indonesia and found from Malaysia to the Solomon Islands

Fun fact: this little slug is often confused with similar Phyllidia species, even by experienced observers. Spotting the black rings around the tubercles is the key. 🔍

📍 Photographed in Bali, Indonesia, 2016 📸 Photo:

Love macro? Always look, never touch: nudibranchs are delicate and shouldn’t be handled. 🤿

✨🕳️ Cenote Dream Gate, Tulum | Cavern Cenote Diving in Riviera Maya, Mexico

Stalactites. Air domes. Roots coming through the ceiling. 🌿

Dream Gate is one of the most beautiful cavern dives near Tulum, part of the huge Sac Actun underwater cave system. Crystal-clear water at around 25°C all year round, no current, and a shallow max depth of about 7 m, so you get a long, relaxed dive surrounded by incredible formations.

What makes it special:
🔹 Dense, delicate stalactites and stalagmites 🪨
🔹 Two guideline routes (upstream and downstream)
🔹 An air dome with tree roots hanging through the ceiling
🔹 Beams of sunlight through the cave roof in summer ☀️
🔹 Quiet, uncrowded dives with small groups

🤿 Good buoyancy is a must: the formations are fragile and even bubbles can damage them. Dive with a professional guide and within your training.

🌿🕳️ Cave Diving in Riviera Maya | Cenote Coop One | Halocline
Two layers of water. One surreal moment. ✨

A short clip from our dive in Cenote Coop One, Chemuyil, Quintana Roo, between Akumal and Tulum. Here you pass through the halocline, where fresh water meets salt water. The view blurs and shimmers like looking through glass, until you drop below it into crystal-clear salt water. 🇲🇽

🔹 Cenote and cave diving in Riviera Maya
🔹 Guided dives with experienced instructors
🔹 PADI courses and TDI diving courses
🔹 Easy to combine with our bull shark dives in Playa del Carmen in season 🦈

⚠️ Overhead environment: full cave diving requires proper cave certification.
