Researchers have proven the peacock flounder’s incredible ability to blend into the ocean floor. They even placed a chessboard beneath it, and the animal imitated it — an experiment featured in the BBC documentary Weird Nature.
It does so thanks to chromatophores, specialized skin cells that alter its pigmentation in just 8 seconds.
The most astonishing part: the peacock flounder uses its eyes to "read" its surroundings. Without vision, there's no camouflage. Its eyes don't just see the world… they copy it. 🐟♟️🌊
