SOME ADVENTURES STAY WITH YOU.📹 Three days in .

Desiree came to Mexico with her son Ethan, ready to explore the together. We worked on her , refined her equipment configuration and body position, and built a plan that gave both of them something to look forward to each day.

For Ethan, the adventure looked a little different.
Cenotes. Dry caves. Snorkeling. Endless swimming. Running around all day.

Alonso had the important mission of keeping up with him.
Watching them reminded me of something very personal.

When I was a kid, I travelled around the world with my mother, just the two of us. Those experiences shaped the person I became and eventually influenced the life I chose to build around diving and exploration.
That's why days like this mean something beyond the dives themselves.

Sometimes, we get the opportunity to give someone an experience they will remember for years.
Desiree, thank you for sharing these three days with us and for trusting us with such a special trip. Ethan, keep that energy. Alonso may need a few days to recover.

ANOTHER WAY TO GET THERE 🪢

Not every cenote comes with a nice staircase.

I have been diving in the deep cenotes situated in the north of the Peninsula with Alondra and Benji. For the first time, I’ve experienced using the rappel equipment to lower my a$$ into the water.

It reminded me of my first jump from a plane, in tandem with the instructor. I felt like a useless bag of meat, unable to take control of the situation. I promised myself that if I was going to jump again, it would be to take the certification!

I feel compelled to what I am doing, within reasonable limits. I consider moving my body weight up and down to be included in the area of control I want to maintain!

This time, I wasn’t strapped to a 250-pound dude, but I was hanging from the extremely trained hands of Alondra, rappel instructor and cave guide, while being photographed by Benji, who was also making fun of me… as one does!

So… I guess that now I have no other choice but to take all the rappel courses with Alondra Fernandez Salazar and lower my a$$ in the water by myself!

BEYOND THE LIGHT 🔦

At some point, the entrance is no longer part of the dive.
You stop thinking about what is behind you and start paying attention to what is in front of you.

The topography.
The formations.
The colors.
The feeling about the place.
Small tunnels that need to be checked on your next dive.

You start to live the cave.

One of the things we like about cave diving is to develop a special relationship with every single cave because they are all unique!

The environment gives you information constantly.

The question is what are you going to do with it?

HOW TO SWITCH REGULATORS BETWEEN STAGES | 🤿

When with multiple stages, you can skip returning to your primary regulator every time you switch tanks.

The goal is to move directly from one stage to the next while maintaining control and awareness. But this requires understanding your hose routing.

Which hose comes from the left?
Which one comes from the right?
Which hose sits above the other?
And which second stage needs to enter your mouth from the top or the bottom?

These details become especially important when switching between different gas mixtures.

The technique may look simple, but understanding your configuration and practicing the movement repeatedly can make the entire process much smoother.

Know your hoses.
Know your regulators.
Know your configuration.

Practice it until the movement becomes automatic. 🤿

YOUR COURSE WITH WHAT YOU DO TODAY 💭

Laura Laura Urías is already comfortable exploring deep cenotes. Now she wants to take the next step: becoming a cave diver.

We spent a great day at Yakuun working on skills, awareness, and emergency procedures during a guided dive. The goal is to build the foundation she needs before starting technical training later this year.

One of the biggest challenges for divers isn’t learning a skill. It’s keeping it current.

Work, , and everyday life can make regular diving difficult. You don’t need to be in a cenote every weekend to stay sharp, but you do need to keep practicing.

Pool sessions, skills drills, and emergency scenarios with a dive buddy can make a big difference. Repetition builds comfort, and comfort matters when something doesn’t go according to plan.

Laura understands this very well. She is committed to staying active, improving her skills, and becoming more prepared for the next stage of her diving.

That attitude makes a huge difference.

I’m very happy to be part of her journey, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it takes her.

THE CAVE REVEALS THE LOGIC BEHIND YOUR 🔎

Every piece of equipment has a purpose.
Every procedure has a reason.
Every skill becomes more valuable when it has been developed for the environment where you actually use it.

A like this demands more than technical knowledge. It demands that you understand your equipment, read the environment, and make decisions that belong to the dive in front of you.

The you understand your system, the more deliberately you can move through the world it was built to explore.

-HA: MORE THAN A CENOTE💧
At first glance, Nicte-Ha looks like a quiet pool surrounded by jungle.

But this surface is only the entrance to something much larger.
Located within the Dos Ojos cave system, Nicte-Ha, which in the Mayan language means “the water of the lily”, is known for its crystal-clear water, open environment, and the water lilies that cover parts of the surface.

For , the interesting part is what the map reveals: a network of passages extending beyond what you can see from the surface.

This is one of the things that makes cenote diving in so different. A cenote is not simply a place to enter the water. It can be the access point to an entire underground environment shaped by thousands of years of geological processes.

The map exposed at the cenote entrance doesn’t only display the navigation lines, but also every detail about the topography of the cavern. Cave cartographers are not just explorers; they are artists who invest countless hours underwater and in their workshops to create a unique representation of what we cannot see from above!

Nicte-Ha is a good reminder that the most interesting part of a cenote is often the part you cannot see from the surface.
