Posible hallazgo de un "Waster" espada de madera para entrenamiento del s.XV. La traducción dice que mide 140cms.

Svetový unikát – drevene meče // A unique find – wooden swords

Minulý rok sa podarilo na Slovensku na Pustom Hrade objaviť v podstate svetový unikát – zachovalé kusy dvoch drevených stredovekých mečov, pochádzajúcich najpravdepodobnejšie z 15.storočia (podľa vrstvy sedimentu v skúmanej cisterne).
Prečo unikát? Podobný nález je dosiaľ pre toto obdobie neznámy alebo neexistujúci. Dôležitý je aj preto, že ani v jednej z učebníc šermu sa až na malú výnimku (drevený tesák) nikde neukazuje ani nespomína drevená zbraň, ktorý by mohla byť pravdepodobne použitá na výcvik. Môžeme preto len teoretizovať, že na bezpečný nácvik sa možno používali drevené substitúcie zbraní (vieme, že sa sem-tam používali palice). Takýto nález samozrejme túto skutočnosť nepotvrdí, ani to, že práve tieto dva kusy sa na nácvik používali, ale určite s hmotným exemplárom máme konečne aj dôkaz, že tomu tak mohlo byť. Na nácvik a cvičenie sa však bežne používali tupé alebo špeciálne zbrane.
Tak či onak, ide o zaujímavý nález – meče zodpovedajú dĺžkou normálnym zbraniam (cca 140cm) a majú dokonca aj žliabok. Aktuálne prebieha ich konzervácia. Po nej budú prekreslené a bude o nich vydaná aj samostatná štúdia. Fotografia je z článku uverejnenom v časopise Quark.

Last year two unique specimen were found when excavating a water tank at the Pustý Hrad Castle, Slovakia -Two perfectly conserved medieval wooden swords, dated to approx. 15th century (according to the sediment and other items).
Why are they unique? A similar find is unknown. It’s also interesting because there are no wooden swords in fencing manuals (when we don’t count the wooden dussacks) nor there are any mentions of wooden swords used in practice (in Giganti’s manual, AFAIK, he mentions you can practice cutting with a stick). Thus we can only hypothesize our ancestors were using wooden swords for practice (sticks were used for practice and we have accounts of that). Such a find won’t definitely say they did use these two for fencing – it might have just been a decoration or whateve – it might have just been a decoration or whatever – but at least we’ve found something which might have been used for the purpose of training. We know for sure that for practice they’ve used blunt swords or other special swords (the nowadays called feders).
Nevertheless, it‘s definitely an interesting find. The swords are as long as the steel ones (approx. 140cm) and even have a fuller. Currently they are being conserved. After the conservation (which may take some time) detailed illustrations will be done and a special devoted study about them will be published.
