Corpus Christi Golf Club

We play with tennis balls so nothing gets broken or damaged. With the closing of the Cozumel Country Club golf course, Cozumeleños now have to drag their clubs on the passenger ferry to the mainland in order to enjoy some golf. That does not appeal to me or any of my golfer friends. That’s how the Corpus Christi Golf Club got started. Since we no longer have a course on the island, I decided to create one myself through the streets of my neighborhood. Obviously, it can’t be a traditional golf course with hard golf balls and 400 meter-long fairways. Instead, we play with a tennis ball which can travel about 80 meters with the BEST of shots. The most important reason to use a tennis ball is that it DOES NOT hurt or damage anything. Even a hard shot into the back of a car does not leave a dent. Of course, the object is to AVOID cars or other obstacles along the course, but none of us are perfect and we hit bumpers and tires sometimes. The game is a combination of golf, lawn bowling and darts. After that, a player is free to throw the ball instead of hitting. Tennis balls travel farther when hit with a club, but accuracy is often more important to get to the end of the holes. The flags or targets are either manhole covers in the center of the street or various wood/concrete poles. This game has become a passion for us now that we know how much fun it is. The way the ball moves down the street hitting potholes or rocks or all kinds of other things makes EVERY game different and FUN! Please come join us some afternoon and try it out.
