‘멕시코 태권도의 대부’ 문대원 사범께서 지난 15일 별세 하셨습니다. 이에 세계 태권도계가 깊은 애도를 보내고 있습니다.
세계태권도연맹(WT)은 오는 18일부터 3일간 서울 본부에 공식 분향소를 설치해 고인을 추모할 예정 입니다.
WT는 “문대원 사범은 ‘멕시코 태권도의 아버지’로 불리며, 태권도가 거의 알려지지 않았던 1960년대 후반 멕시코에 태권도를 뿌리내린 진정한 개척자였다”고 밝혔다.
문 사범은 멕시코태권도연맹(Federacion Mexicana de Taekwondo)을 창설하고 회장을 역임했다.
멕시코는 1975년 세계태권도선수권대회 첫 메달 획득 이후, 현재 세계적인 태권도 강국으로 성장했다.
또한 WT 집행위원과 기술위원장, 개혁위원회 위원 등을 맡아 국제 태권도 발전에 큰 역할을 했다.
특히 조정원 WT 총재 취임 초기 태권도의 올림픽 종목 제외 위기를 막기 위한 활동에도 핵심적인 역할을 수행했다.
WT는 “문대원 사범과 같은 선구자들의 헌신과 희생 덕분에 태권도는 오늘날 세계에서 가장 인기 있는 무도이자 스포츠 중 하나로 성장할 수 있었다”며 “WT는 그의 공헌에 깊은 빚을 지고 있다”고 추모했다.
이어 “문대원 사범의 위대한 업적과 뜻을 기리기 위해 WT는 오는 18일부터 20일까지 서울 WT 본부에 공식 분향소를 설치해 추모할 예정”이라고 밝혔다.
WT는 유가족과 제자들, 멕시코를 비롯한 전 세계 태권도인들에게 깊은 애도를 전하며 “문대원 사범의 영면을 기원한다”고 덧붙였다.

World Taekwondo Pays Its Deepest Respects to Grand Master Dai Won Moon
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Grandmaster Dai Won Moon at the age of 83.
Grandmaster Moon was lovingly regarded as the “Father of Mexican Taekwondo” and was a true pioneer at a time when Taekwondo was virtually unknown in the late 1960s. He founded the Federacion Mexicana de Taekwondo and served with distinction as its president. From winning its first medals at the 1975 World Taekwondo Championships, Mexico has since grown into one of the world’s leading Taekwondo nations.
Among his many roles within World Taekwondo, Grandmaster Moon served as a World Taekwondo Council Member and Chair of the Technical Committee. He was also a member of the Reform Committee and played an instrumental role in the collective efforts to prevent Taekwondo from being excluded from the Olympic Games at the beginning of my presidency.
Thanks to visionaries like Grandmaster Moon and their selfless dedication and sacrifices, Taekwondo has become one of the most popular martial arts and sports in the world today. World Taekwondo remains deeply indebted to Grandmaster Moon for his invaluable contributions.
On behalf of World Taekwondo, I extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
To honor his remarkable legacy and memory, World Taekwondo will set up a memorial altar at the WT Headquarters in Seoul from May 18 to 20.
