KATINJI OR EPHRAIM

Zamasewero gives it's views on the decision to drop Binwell and opting for Ephraim

Many people are questioning why Katinji has been left, here is the fact.

Katinji is a very good striker, very skilled and talented. However, he is not strong and does not fight. He is not fit to play as a lone striker. He needs alot of support from the midfield. Therefore, not suitable when the team is defending.

Kondowe is not as skilled as Katinji in terms of dribbling. He doesn't score much. However, he is a fighter, he can keep defenders busy and is very fast. He is strong even when playing as a lone Striker. He can run and outpace the defenders in a counter attack situation. He is becoming the next Chiukepo Msowoya.

Pasuwa knows that there is Gaba, Chawangwa and Mbulu who will start the game. These are experienced and dangerous Strikers. In a game like this, when a team is winning even with a single goal, there is need to defend it. When defending, the Strikers who started the game are normally tired, mid fielders pull back. At that moment, there is a need to retire one or two Strikers who started the game and introduce one who can play as a lone striker and manage to keep the opponents defenders busy. This lone striker must be strong, have good pace and can score even without full support from mid fielders. This striker is Ephraim Kondowe. He cannot be in the first 11 but is introduced when the team is defending. Even if he doesn't score, but he keeps the defenders busy such that the opponents team fails to move.
So we totally agree with Pasuwa on this decision.

Death Announcement!!

We are saddened to Announce the demise of our former player Kondwani Lufeyo.

Kondwani has died at Queen's Elizabeth Hospital hours ago.
He had a kidney failure that resulted to his demise.

More to come about the burial programme.

On Saturday, 14th October 2023, Kalekeni Kaphale SC, led a 9 member Wanderers FC delegation to the hearing of appeal case involving
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers football Club (“the appellant”) and FAM (“the Respondent”) at FAM's Mpira Offices in Blantyre.

In his submission, Kaphale SC on behalf of the legal team argued that the FAM Competitions Committee erred in the first place by not inviting the appellant to a hearing before making its determinations. This according to Kaphale contravenes rules of natural justice and FIFA Disciplinary code which respects internationally accepted human rights.

On FAM's determination that the referee's decision is final, Kaphale argued that the Airtel Top 8 rules can not override FIFA rules as rules made by a lesser body under FIFA must comply with the FIFA rules. The Senior Counsel cited various provisions and instances where referees' decisions were overturned.

Kaphale also questioned the change in numbers of seats which were damaged at the Bingu National Stadium which jumped from first figure of 70 to 239, describing it as outrageous. He contested the development saying the figures were arrived out without prior involvement of the appellant during the assessment.

Kalekeni Kaphale SC has since prayed for the nullification of FAM's Competition Committee judgement.

The hearing was chaired by Allison M’bang’ombe with a panel consisting of private practice lawyers Khumbo Soko and Ted Roka.

The respondents were led by Williams Banda with members including Raphael Humba, FAM CEO Alfred Gunda as well as the Competitions and Communications Director, Gomezgani Zakazaka. On the other end, Kaphale SC was assisted by Counsel David Kanyenda and the Board Secretary for Wanderers, Chancy Gondwe. The Appellant was also represented by Director Limbani Magomero, Acting CEO Roosevelt Mpinganjira, Media Officer Chimwemwe Kaonga, Head Coach Mark Harrison and Captain Stanley Sanudi.

The appeals panel will be making their determinations in due course.

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Competitions Committee has made the following determinations on the 2023 Airtel top 8 Quarterfinal first leg Match between Silver Strikers FC and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC which was abandoned on Saturday 23rd September 2023 at the Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe:

1.Award the match to Silver Strikers FC who win by a margin of two goals to Zero (2-0) after finding Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC guilty of causing the abandonment of the match following their players’ refusal to continue with play in protest of the referee’s decision contrary to article 10.3 of the 2023 Airtel Top 8 Rules and Regulations.

2.Impose upon Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC a financial sanction of Five Hundred Thousand Kwacha (K500,000.00) for being found guilty of failure take the necessary precautions to prevent their supporters from displaying unsporting behaviours by throwing objects into the field of play and damaging stadium seats. The Committee has also ordered Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Football Club to pay for the costs associated with the repair and restoration of any damaged facilities at Bingu National Stadium which stands at K22,083,400.00 (Twenty-Two million and Eighty- Three Thousand Six Hundred Kwacha) as per the preliminary assessment by BNS Authorities.

3. Impose upon Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC a financial sanction of Two Million Kwacha (K2,000,000) for being found guilty of bringing the game of football, FAM, and the name of the sponsor into disrepute.

4. Refer the matter on the decision by Referee Godfrey Nkhakananga to the FAM Referees’ Committee for review and necessary measures on the referee as the Committee is of the view that Referee, may have made an error in the interpretation of the Laws of the Game by giving an advantage to Silver Strikers after he had blown the whistle for an infringement.

5.Found Mighty Mukuru Wanderers protest inadmissible because according to Article 13.5 of the Airtel Top 8 Rules and Regulations the decision taken by the Match Referee during any match relating to interpretation of the Laws of the Game is not subject to protest.
