Masters ready for Lions - Mponda

Masters FC head coach Peter Mponda says the team is ready for the Red Lions challenge as we return to FDH Bank Premiership action in Zomba on Saturday.

Mponda says preparations have gone well during the two-week period since our 2-1 defeat to Blue Eagles, with the team using the break to work on areas that needed improvement.

"We are ready for the game. The preparations have gone well and the players are focused on the task ahead," Mponda said.

The coach confirmed that Innocent Msowoya will miss the encounter through injury, but says the setback has not affected the team’s readiness, with the available players prepared to step up.

Red Lions have proved a strong side at home, but Mponda says we are prepared for the challenge and will be aiming for a positive result as we seek to return to winning ways.

Ndau, Davie lead our scoring charts

With one game remaining before the completion of the first round of the 2026 FDH Bank Premiership, Hastings Ndau and Stain Davie are leading our scoring charts with three goals each.

Ndau scored all three of his goals in our 4-0 victory over Dedza Dynamos, while Davie has also been among our most consistent contributors in front of goal, including scoring against Luanar Mitundu.

We have scored 17 goals and conceded 16 in 14 matches, collecting 21 points from six wins, three draws and five defeats to occupy fifth position on the league table.

Our campaign started with a 1-0 victory over Chitipa United on April 26, with Precious Sambani scoring the decisive goal.

Davie and Philimon Ndhlovu then found the net in our 2-1 away victory over Karonga United, before our attacking contributions were spread across the squad in subsequent matches.

Our biggest victory came against Dedza Dynamos, where Ndau's hat-trick and Kaonga's goal secured a commanding 4-0 victory.

Davie added another goal against Luanar Mitundu, while Luke Chima also got on the scoresheet against MAFCO FC.

Philimon Ndhlovu and Patrick Phiri have each scored twice, while Precious Sambani, Enock Kaonga, Chikako Batison, Chisomo Mpachika, Frank Sanudi and Luke Chima have also contributed goals during the campaign.

We have also benefited from an own goal, taking our total to 17 goals after 14 matches.

As we head into the final game of the first round, we will be looking to maintain our attacking form and finish the opening half of the season strongly.

Our scorers after 14 matches

- Hastings Ndau - 3
- Stain Davie - 3
- Philimon Ndhlovu - 2
- Patrick Phiri - 2
- Precious Sambani - 1
- Enock Kaonga - 1
- Chikaiko Batison - 1
- Chisomo Mpachika - 1
- Frank Sanudi - 1
- Luke Chima - 1
- Own goals in our favour - 1

Total goals: 17

Masters look to bounce back after Eagles defeat

Masters FC will look to bounce back strongly after a 2-1 home defeat to Blue Eagles in the FDH Bank Premiership at Civo Stadium on Saturday, with head coach Peter Mponda urging his side to build on the positives ahead of our final first-round fixture.

Blue Eagles took an early lead through Pius Saka inside the opening two minutes before Enock Jobo doubled their advantage deep inside second half. Frank Sanudi pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute, but Masters could not complete the comeback.

Mponda believes the result could have been different had Masters converted the chances they created, particularly in the opening half.

"We created enough chances to equalise and maybe be leading before half-time. Unfortunately, we didn't take our chances," Mponda said, while calling for better concentration and sharp finishing in our next match.
