The Scorchers are in line for more than K36 million each in bonuses, allowances and rewards following their historic run to the final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Malawi exceeded expectations at their first appearance at the continental showpiece, reaching the final before finishing runners-up to Cameroon.
The players were initially expected to earn around K8 million each from the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) for their four victories, but the association is now reviewing the bonus package following the team’s outstanding performance.
FAM president Fleetwood Haiya confirmed that the revised winning incentives would be communicated in due course.
Ahead of the tournament, Haiya announced a major increase in the players’ win bonuses, with each player set to receive K2 million for every group-stage victory. The figure represented a fourfold increase from the previous K500,000 rate, with higher rewards promised for victories in the knockout rounds.
“As a demonstration of our confidence in this team, FAM has introduced a K2 million [each] winning bonus per player for every group-stage victory, with increased rewards for reaching the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final,” Haiya said.
The Scorchers registered four wins during their remarkable campaign. They defeated Nigeria 3-2 and Egypt 3-1 in the group stage before eliminating Ghana 2-1 in the quarterfinals and Algeria 3-1 in the semifinals.
Beyond the FAM bonuses, the players are also set to benefit from several financial rewards announced by the team’s sponsors and government.
National Bank of Malawi plc, the team’s official sponsor, pledged K500 million, translating to K10 million for each player.
NBS Bank plc is providing K7 million per player, while President Peter Mutharika has committed K5 million to each member of the squad.
The players are also entitled to external travel allowances
