What do you wear on a liveaboard?

The simple answer: whatever makes you comfortable.

There’s no dress code onboard Scubaspa, but if you’re wondering what usually makes its way into the suitcase, think easy, relaxed, and made for life at sea.

Wetsuits and swimsuits for time in the water. Activewear for morning yoga. Shorts, T-shirts, linen and light clothes for days around the boat.

And when the sun goes down, some guests like to dress up a little for a special dinner onboard or a beach dinner. Others keep it casual. Both work perfectly.

Barefoot, dressed up or somewhere in between. You are on holiday!

Fifty shades of blue.

One of the things we love most about the Maldives is how the ocean seems to change color throughout the day.

Not all sighting needs to be a manta ray or a whale shark. Sometimes, all it takes is a lone batfish suspended in the blue, perfectly framed by the ocean around it.

No reef. No distractions. Just the ocean being an artist.

One week. Countless dives. Plenty of learning. And moments like this.

Every year, we welcome the team from onboard for our dedicated Whale Shark Week.

The Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme has been studying whale sharks in the Maldives since 2013, combining long-term research with conservation, education and community involvement. Their work has contributed to a better understanding of the whale shark population in the Maldives and to the protection of their habitat.

From November 14th to 21st, they join us onboard to share that knowledge directly with our guests, adding research, education and conservation to a week exploring some of the Maldives’ best-known whale shark areas.

And of course, encounters like this are exactly why we never get tired of looking for that spotted silhouette beneath the surface.

Sometimes, a week onboard is about more than a holiday.

With the Academy returning onboard at the end of November, it’s a good reminder of just how differently our vessels can be used. Little scoop, they have officially opened the registrations for their next program with us. For more information 👉: https://preview.behind-the-mask.com/maldives

Over the years, we’ve welcomed full charters for retreats, conferences, dive groups, surf groups, creative projects, and special programs, giving organizers the opportunity to make the vessel their own for the week.

Join Behind the Mask onboard Scubaspa this November for photography and videography workshops.

With accommodation, dining, spa and wellness facilities, indoor and outdoor spaces, and the Maldives as the setting, our team can work alongside organizers to support very different types of programs onboard.

World Ocean Day is a gentle reminder of why we do what we do. 💙🌊

As we prepare for our Far North season this August, we look forward to returning to one of the Maldives' most beautiful natural wonders: Hanifaru Bay. During manta season, this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve becomes a gathering place for dozens of manta rays feeding, and we are here for it. Link in bio for this unique route in the Maldives.

One of the biggest advantages of being on a liveaboard all week is waking up in a different area every morning and constantly traveling through the atolls of the Maldives to dive the best, and sometimes more remote, sites that resorts simply can’t reach.

That being said, we also love to touch land and feel the sand under our feet from time to time. That’s when the team steps in to set up the perfect afternoon activity: a sandbank happy hour and watersports for the enjoyment of everyone onboard.

Being a part of it for 13 years.

As we celebrate all these years in the Maldives, we want to give a special shout-out to the people who make it all possible - our team. The familiar faces who welcome you onboard, guide you through the reefs, prepare your meals, keep the boat running smoothly, and somehow make every trip feel special.

Many of them have been with us for years. They’ve grown with the boats, welcomed thousands of guests, and created memories that last far beyond a single week at sea.

This milestone belongs to them as much as it does to us all.

We often showcase the ocean’s beauty through images of manta rays and sharks, as they are fascinating creatures. Yet we also have to give credit to the true foundation of that magic, the many shades of blue, healthy coral reef, and vibrant fish life that make our oceans so beautiful

Let’s pause for a moment and admire a scene that could have come straight out of a documentary by David Attenborough.
