🍾 Champagne Moment & DOD 🫠

This week’s Champagne Moment goes to none other than The Pres, Tommy!

A fine knock packed with glorious cover drives that had spectators purring and teammates wondering if we’d travelled back in time. After only a few weeks ago making his Notables debut while spending most of the afternoon sitting in a chair, Tommy has now rattled off back-to-back fifties!

Ageing like a fine champagne. Well played, Pres! 🍾🏏

🍆 Dick of the Day 🍆

This week’s award goes to one of our newest recruits, De Wet.

He arrived at nets with plenty of hype. We’ve seen him launching absolute bombs, and some have even claimed he hits the ball further than Chris Gayle and Vaibhav Suryavanshi combined.

So what happened on debut?

A golden opportunity… and a duck. 🦆

The Notables were back in action this weekend against the Marlins, and after being sent in to bat, posted a very respectable 169/9 from their 20 overs.

Batting honours go to skipper Tom, who rolled back the years with a classy 58* from just 32 balls, while Dylan Norris chipped in with a handy 20 from 17 to help set what looked like a competitive total.

With the ball, Ben Van Rooyen was the pick of the attack, finishing with excellent figures of 2-19 from his 4 overs and giving the Marlins plenty to think about.

Unfortunately for the Notables, the game slipped away on the second-last ball in a nail-biting finish.

Now for the funny part…

Marlins informed us they had a player arriving late and would only be acting as 12th man. Fair enough, we thought. What they forgot to mention was that their “12th man” appeared to be a South African U19 Colts player! He strolled to the crease and promptly launched a rapid-fire 50 from 20 balls, turning the game on its head.

A lovely little trick up the sleeve there, lads! 😂

All jokes aside, well played to the Marlins and thanks for a great game. We’ll remember the secret weapon next time… and revenge will be sweet. 🏏🍻

A wicket maiden is every bowler’s dream.

To execute one in a match is quality bowling…

To do it TWICE in a high-scoring game is something else entirely. 👏🔥

This week’s Champagne Moment goes to Keegs, who produced two wicket maidens when runs were flying everywhere. That’s proper bowling, building pressure, taking wickets, and completely changing the game.

A fantastic spell and a thoroughly deserved Champagne Moment.

Hat-tricks are something this club certainly isn’t shy of…

But this week we’ve witnessed a very different kind of hat-trick.

STEVE… HAT-TRICK OF DICKS OF THE DAY!!! 🎩😂

Has that ever happened in club history?

This week’s nomination came courtesy of a suicidal call that very nearly ran out his own son, Ed. Father of the Year awards have officially been postponed.

To be fair, Steve eventually took one for the team and sacrificed himself instead, all while having a full-blown argument with Ed halfway down the pitch.

In the end, it turned out to be the right decision…

An angry Ed responded by absolutely creaming the very next ball for four.

Meanwhile Steve?

Duck… and straight back through the small gate. 🚪😂

Father vs Son – Who Would Prevail? 👨‍👦🏏

Bragging rights, family rivalry, and plenty of banter were on the line as Father vs Son took centre stage for our latest Intraclub fixture!

Captain Gaz won the toss (while giving his son a quick lesson on how to actually win one 😏) and elected to bat first.

The innings got underway with another father-and-son pairing as the Stewarts made their way to the crease. It was a steady start, but once the middle order arrived, the game completely changed.

🔥 Yannick – 26 (15)
🔥 Pranavan – 50* (24)
🔥 Dylan – 36* (25)
🔥 Tom – 50* (25)

Some serious middle-order firepower helped Gaz’s XI post an imposing 220/4 from 25 overs.

The standout with the ball was Keegan, producing an incredible spell of 2/9 from 4 overs, including two wicket maidens! 👏

A huge chase awaited…

Opening the reply were yet another father-and-son combination, the Coulsons. Yes, you read that right… three father-and-son duos featured in the match! The start wasn’t ideal, and it seemed both dads may have had something to do with that… 🤔

A special mention to Ed, who scored 18 (15) – his highest score for the club so far! 💪

Then came the counter-attack…

💥 Keegan – 45* (25)
💥 Daz – 33* (25)

The game was perfectly poised at the drinks break before Lloyd and Divan put together a superb 50+ run partnership to keep the chase alive.

It all came down to the final over…

11 needed from 6 balls.

On the third ball, they thought they’d run three…

BUT…

🫣 Cornish spotted a short run!

Instead of three, only two counted, and that single run proved to be the difference.

Going into the final ball, 3 were needed to win… but Gaz’s side held their nerve, with the chasing team finishing just 1 run short!

Final Result: Gaz’s XI win by 1 run! 🏆

Gaz not only showed his son how to win a toss… he also showed him how to captain a team to victory! 😎

What an incredible game—big hits, great spells, family bragging rights, and a finish that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Roll on the next Intraclub! 🏏🔥

Yes, it’s slightly late… but it’s not as late as Steve Coulson after a curry the night before… 💨🥔

There we have it… another legendary Northfields Intraclub Game is in the books!

Who got French fried (apart from JR and the other Frogs 🇫🇷🐸)? Who was Hasselbacked into a corner? Who ended up completely par-boiled under pressure? And who drove home knowing the extra potato would be on the plate rather than… elsewhere? 👀🥔

The banter was flowing, the beers were cold, the braais were sizzling, and as always, the cricket somehow managed to break out in between it all!

A massive thank you to everyone who played, supported, scored, umpired, braaied, heckled and helped make it another unforgettable day at Northfields. These are the days that make our club what it is.

The results… the heroes… the villains… and the inevitable roasting of those who deserve it will all be revealed…
