As with most things in Zen, there's a thin line between the two extremes. In pure detachment, you care but at the same time, there's no expectation. You'd treat a friend and an enemy the same way while obviously having clear boundaries.

In indifference, there's no care as you think the world is against you.

Gassho,
Suuko.

You don't meditate to be peaceful. You don't meditate to be positive. You sit to see things as they are, the good and the ugly sides of life. Buddha's enlightenment came after he accepted Mara was a part of him.

Your thoughts don't define you unless you identify with them.

Gassho,
Suuko.

A new chapter in an old journey.

After many years of practice, reflection, and returning to the present moment, I am grateful to share that I have been accepted into the Insight Timer practitioner directory, one of the world’s largest meditation and mindfulness platforms, reaching a global community of millions of practitioners.
For those unfamiliar with Insight Timer, profiles included in their directory go through an approval and verification process to ensure alignment with their standards and community guidelines. I am honoured to have my journey recognised and to have the opportunity to share mindfulness practices with a wider community.

Suuko is my dharma name, given to me within my Zen practice in the Dōgen Soto Zen lineage. Under this name, I will share aspects of my meditation journey, rooted in Soto Zen practice and complemented by my training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).

For me, meditation has never been about escaping life. It has been about learning to meet life more fully: with awareness, compassion, patience, and acceptance.
The roles we carry are many: educator, parent, colleague, friend, practitioner. Yet beneath these roles is the simple practice of returning: to the breath, to the present moment, and to ourselves.
I am grateful for this opportunity to continue learning, practicing, and sharing the quiet lessons that meditation continues to reveal.

The mind tricks you into believing that you aren't enough and there's something better. The truth is that you're complete as you are. Practice is knowing what you aren't and dissociating with these till you know who you are.

The Banyan tree is the mythological tree under which Sakyamuni, the first Buddha who started the lineage gained enlightenment.
One striking observation is that the roots are above ground level reminding us that our values are not just read and discussed. They should be lived and integrated in our lives. The tree usually grows on rooftops as they are thrown by birds, emphasizing that something majestic can come from something simple and trivial which is considered sacred as in Buddhism everything is sacred.

All actions create some tension as you feel that you are doing it. When you realize that actions get done through you and you're just an instrument, you move beyond the ego. At this point, the action is pure and you don't really exist.

Getting a bonsai to grow from its seed and trimming the main roots make me understand a couple of things. You always build on a solid foundation. Second, things are never straight looking at the shape it took. You need to trim and allow yourself to follow the bends pretty much like when life throws things at you.

Deep bows,
Suuko.

It's the page's 8th year and I haven't been writing a lot lately for many reasons.

The main thing I have realized in the journey is that the chase of happiness is absurd. Happiness is a by product of one who is living a life of clarity and is being true to oneself daily. When you do that, it's liberating. If you're performing or putting on an act, you ultimately tire yourself

So be yourself, some will hate you but you will bump into people who appreciate you for who you are and you will never feel drained. Don't chase happiness. Be yourself.
