𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥? 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐤𝐞?

As artificial intelligence becomes more sophisticated and cybercriminals more creative, it is becoming increasingly difficult to tell what is genuine and what is fraudulent.

Last Sunday, Wellthy Hub hosted an engaging three-hour session on 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲, 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐲 & 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞, with 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐕𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐧 (AI & IT Expert) and 𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐡𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 (Barrister-at-Law).

Together, we explored some of today's most important digital challenges, including:

☑️ AI-generated scams, deepfakes and cybercrime.
✅ The growing difficulty of telling genuine messages and content from fraudulent ones.
☑️ Online risks affecting children, families and older adults.
✅ The most common scams currently targeting people in Mauritius.
☑️ Practical steps to stay safer online and what victims should do after a cyber incident.
✅ The legal and practical challenges of fighting cybercrime, including anonymous offenders and the difficulties of enforcing laws against global technology and social media platforms.

The session also explored 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐧-𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐈 𝐜𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚'𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐆𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠. As access to advanced AI cybersecurity models becomes increasingly restricted in several parts of the world, the discussion highlighted the importance of developing sovereign AI capabilities to help protect Africa's own digital infrastructure.

Founded by Cyberstorm.mu, the University of Mauritius, the University of Technology, Mauritius, and l'Université des Mascareignes, Project Stormwing aims to strengthen Africa's defensive AI cybersecurity capabilities and technological resilience.

𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞, 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡.

I would argue it begins even earlier. It begins with safety. Because it is difficult to thrive when we feel vulnerable. It is difficult to grow when we are constantly on guard.

And it is difficult to experience genuine wellbeing when we are afraid.

This belief sits at the heart of the holistic approach we are building at Wellthy Hub.

Yesterday, during the 2nd session of our Wellbeing Now Series, we explored a topic that is rarely discussed within traditional wellbeing conversations: Self-Defence Fundamentals for Women.

Facilitated by Ramon Jutliah from Self Defence Krav Maga Mauritius, the session went far beyond physical techniques.

Participants explored awareness, recognising warning signs, setting boundaries and responding effectively in difficult situations.

As Founder of Wellthy Hub, what struck me most was not the demonstrations themselves. It was the quality of the questions.

The discussion revealed a genuine desire to better understand how to stay safe, navigate uncertainty and approach challenging situations with greater confidence.

To me, this is what wellbeing is really about: helping people develop the knowledge, awareness and capabilities that allow them to live healthier, safer and more fulfilling lives.

My sincere thanks to Ramon and to all participants for contributing to such a meaningful learning experience.

I have intentionally kept the group small so that I can coach each participant individually and help them work on real situations they face in their professional lives.
