Ultramed Challenges

Ultramed Challenges A series of extreme physical and mental challenges in and around the Mediterranean, to raise funds and awareness for good causes, led by Nathan Farrugia. VO/199

Nathan is continuing on from the Ultramed Challenge across Corsica and Sardinia, and travelling from Malta to Rome on human power, over 1000km of kayak, run, swim and cycle. Friends are encouraged to join as a relay. Kayak Malta to Pozzallo - 100km
Run to Messina - 220km
Swim to Reggio - 5km
Cycle to Rome - 800km

Time of year around May/June 2021

(Previously, Ultramed Challenge)

Nathan will run

200+km across Corsica, swim the 15km treacherous Bonifacio Straits to Sardinia and the cycle the full 400+km length of the Island non-stop. This extreme challenge will be listed alongside his world record 27 marathons in 27 days in 27 countries, other mountain 100-mile and ultra marathon races, the Marathon Des Sables and Ironman races, raising thousands of euros for charitable causes. This year however, there is a difference to the usual approach. Nathan wants others to experience the extreme, by inviting people to participate in either the run-relay, the 15km swim or the cycle relay. Whilst individuals can put themselves to their own test, they will be asked to raise funds for Inspire as they build up their endurance to the challenge. Please support this challenge by donating to Inspire on www.inspire.org.mt/donate with "Nathans Challenge" in the text box, or send an SMS with “Nathan’s Challenge” to 50617359 (€2.33), 50618080 (€4.66), 50618962 (€6.99) or 50619215 (€11.65)

All funds go to Inspire.

Because of the strict cut off times at check points, Nathan had to pull out of Spartathlon. We're certain that had he been allowed to go on he would have crawled to the finish line on his hands and knees. But it wasn't meant to be and of course he is disappointed with himself and for letting others down. BUT the truth is that Nathan ran for 21 hours straight, covered 151km of rough terrain, and raised thousands for The Inspire Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis & RA1SE.
So we'll let him wallow in his sadness for a while but as soon as he regains his strength he'll have lots of hugs to answer to. So Nathan get ready and thank you, you're a star.

A MESSAGE FROM NATHAN:

Sad news. Trying to meet the harsh cut off times took it out of me, as I wasn't prepared well enough. Got to the mountains but there was no time left. Ran for 21hrs and covered 151k of tough terrain, and I just couldn't make my legs go any faster. It wasn't meant to be I guess. At least I know I pushed hard. Sorry to let you all down, especially those that donated.

A huge thank you to Ebi and Lorenzo for their 'marathon' support, all of you that cheered me on, and Dee & the kids for their ongoing encouragement.
