📈 Rankings on the move!

Following the Assikura Singles Rankings Tournament, the latest Badminton Malta national rankings have now been updated, with several players making significant moves after their performances at the tournament.

Some of the standout changes include:

🏆 Matthew Abela – Open Men’s Singles winner, moving from #10 to #5
🔝 Matthew Galea – Open Men’s Singles runner-up, climbing from #4 to #2
🏆 Gabriela Skórkowska – Open Women’s Singles winner and a new entry at #14
⭐ Charlie Jia – an U15 player who won the U17 Boys’ Singles title and enters the U17 rankings at #14
🏆 Luca Saliba – U13 Boys’ Singles winner, moving from #4 to #2 in the U13 rankings
👑 Jade Bartoli – remains #1 in U13 Girls’ Singles and moves from #4 to #2 in U15

The latest rankings also now show how each player has moved since the previous update, making it even easier to follow their progress throughout the season. 📊

🏸 Assikura Singles Rankings Tournament 1 — Match Schedule

The match schedule for Sunday is now available.

⚠️ IMPORTANT:

1. All match times are approximate and may move forward or back depending on match duration and court availability.

2. Players in the first morning wave should simply be ready on time for their first match.

3. Players whose first match is later in the day should arrive at least ONE HOUR earlier, as the schedule may move faster than expected.

Training Camp Loading – Hyderabad, India! 🇮🇳🏸

Emily Abela is taking her training to the next level as she embarks on an intensive training camp in Hyderabad, India, at the Chetan Anand Badminton Academy (CABA). 🇮🇳🏸

Her training camp began on Thursday, 3rd September, and will continue until Friday, 2nd October 2026, giving Emily a full month to sharpen her skills, challenge herself and gain valuable experience in a highly competitive training environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Emily to train with new players, experience different training methods and continue developing both on and off the court. Every session is another step forward in her badminton journey. 💪🏸

We wish Emily an incredible month in Hyderabad, filled with hard work, growth, learning and unforgettable memories. Keep pushing, Emily – make every session count! ✨🇲🇹🇮🇳

🏸 Official Draw – Assikura Singles Rankings Tournament 1

The draw for the first Badminton Malta Singles Ranking Tournament of the 2026/27 season has now been completed!

We have a fantastic entry of 56 players across six singles events, with 58 entries in total:

🏸 Men’s Singles
🏸 Women’s Singles
🏸 Boys U13
🏸 Girls U13
🏸 Boys U17
🏸 Girls U17

The seeded players were placed according to the current published Badminton Malta singles rankings, with the remaining players allocated through the Tournament Planner draw.

The tournament will feature group stages followed by knockout rounds, giving players plenty of competitive matches throughout the day.

📹 We are also sharing the draw process for full transparency.

🥉 Bronze in Mexico for Matthew Abela & Gabriela Skorkowska! 🇲🇽

Another strong international performance for Matthew Abela and Gabriela Skorkowska, who secured 3rd place in the Mixed Doubles at their tournament in Mexico! 🇲🇽🏸

The pair put together an impressive run, battling their way through the competition before reaching the semi-finals. There, they faced Japan’s Mahiro Oku & Ria Haga, with the Japanese pair taking the match:

🏸 Semi-Final: 10–21, 18–21
🥉 Mixed Doubles – 3rd Place

Another international medal for Matthew and Gabriela and another great result for Maltese badminton on the international stage! 🇲🇹👏
