With the new season just around the corner, we caught up with Ta’ Xbiex Sports Club Head Coach Thomas Westphal to get his thoughts ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

“We had a good pre-season, which included six friendly matches. Several new players have been integrated into the squad, and it’s been enjoyable to watch the team play and develop.”

Even after conceding an early goal, the team kept fighting and gave everything until the final whistle.

In the last minute, we were rewarded with a penalty goal by Obinna Onuwa to make it 1–1 after 90 minutes, taking the game to a penalty shootout.

After a tense finish, we won the shootout 4–3. 🖤💛

Ta’ Xbiex SC - looking forward to season 2026/2027.

Our first pre-season game of the 2026/2027 season saw us face Kirkop United FC in the Renato Miceli Memorial Tournament at Dingli Stadium, finishing 0–1.

Despite the result, the team delivered a very good performance for long periods, moved the ball well, had more of the play and created several good chances. We also used the game to test new options, including our Nigerian training guests.

Although we didn’t get the result today, the performance gives us confidence that we are on the right track as we continue building towards a successful season with ambitious goals.

Next Saturday at 8:15pm, we will play our next game of the tournament at Dingli Stadium against Lija Athletic FC.

Ta’ Xbiex SC will be participating in the Renato Miceli Memorial Tournament 2026.

A strong pre-season test together with:
Lija Athletic F.C.
Dingli Swallows FC
Kirkop United FC
Mqabba FC
All matches will be played every Saturday at Dingli Stadium, starting on 8th August.

First fixture:

A great evening at our Season Closing Dinner at Vecchia Napoli, Salini Resort.

During the event, we had the pleasure of recognising several outstanding contributions from the season:

We were also very pleased to welcome Max Zammit Max Zammit , Mayor of Ta’ Xbiex, to this special occasion.

We signed off the season the right way.

Final position: 4th place — the best finish in club history.
Not enough for promotion, but enough to show where this club is heading.

Respect to Nick “Cowboy” Scicluna for completing his 14th season with the club — a true TXSC legend.

Thank you to the players, coaches, physios, fans, and everyone around the team who put the work in all season.

This year it was not enough. Next year we come back for promotion.
