Scuba diving with Mario

Scuba diving with Mario Belgian PADI dive instructor / MSDT, nederlandstalig. Instructor number 371715. I try to give you more than the basic certification requirements.

Hi, My name is Mario Cauwe, I am born and raised in Flemish Belgium and currently in Crete, Greece. I am a PADI instructor (MSDT) teaching the following courses:
Discover scuba diving, open water, advanced open water, rescue (EFR), Divemaster training
Specialty courses: deep, wreck, sidemount, nitrox, ppb, coral reef research and self-reliant. My goal is to make you the kind of diver that nobody b

elieves you just finished your Open Water course. I like it when you are one step ahead of what you signed up for. I have been teaching in English, Dutch and French. So how do I achieve this? As an instructor, I still remain a student in two ways. I learn from my students and I incorporate that into every next course. Secondly, I keep investing in myself by following higher level courses. This means I dive at a more advanced level than I teach. This way, I can go beyond the requirements of a specific course by providing extra skills or information. My latest addition was self-reliant diver instructor. My training history includes a certification in full cave diving and decompression diving to 45m. I dive conservatively and teach the same way. Safety comes first at any moment during whatever dive or level of training.

Finally, PADI got rid of multiple apps. eLearning, logging, eCards, PADI pro,... are now all accessible by simply downloading the PADI app. Whether you are a student or a PADI pro, you only need that one app.

Check out the article below to get started.

Combining the three PADI apps, divers can now learn, log, and book dives all in one place! Start using the new app today!

A discussion of the use of earplugs when diving. Some websites sell earplugs marketed toward divers. Some vendors have even claimed that DAN endorses their product. DAN does not endorse the use of any earplugs for diving. Depending on the issue, other options are available. If you descend to 3 atmo...

After some research, I believe the infection of my ear is Swimmer's Ear (Otitis Externa), rather than the inner ear infection. All described symptomps apply.

Swimmer's ear is a common condition where bacteria grows within the ear. Read signs, symptoms and strategies to prevent swimmer's ear.

I seem to have a middle ear infection. The eardrum is slightly bent outwards due to fluid building up and causing pain. If not taken care of by staying out of the water and taking antibiotics, there is a risk of rupturing the eardrum from the inside outwards. So no diving these days. Thirteen years of diving and this is the first time I feel this level of discomfort and needing medicine for it.

Middle-ear barotrauma can be graded easily with the O'Neil grading system. The systems helps with treatment from middle-ear barotrauma.

Feeling unwell signal

Feeling unwell signal

Have you been on a dive and suddenly felt ill? It can be a scary situation, especially when you're underwater and can't communicate with your buddy effectively.

PADI has developed a new hand signal for "I don't feel well" that all divers should know about. This simple signal can be a game-changer in a situation where every second counts. It's a simple signal where you draw a big oval in front of your head and torso with your fingers pointing toward you.

Having a prearranged communication plan with your buddy is crucial, but without a specific signal for illness, it can be difficult to convey what's wrong. By learning this new hand signal, you'll not only increase your own awareness of the importance of communicating when you feel unwell, but you'll also be able to prompt your buddy to inform you sooner if they're not feeling their best.

If you're curious about the new hand signal, be sure to read the full article here: https://dan.org/alert-diver/article/dan-dispatch-new-hand-signal-communicates-illness/.
