Qrendi FC Youth Nursery is mourning the loss of Gary Schembri, who passed away aged just 18 following an illness.

Gary was a valued member of the club’s U17 team, with Qrendi FC paying an emotional tribute to the young player.

“Gary was a valued member of our U17 team, and he will forever remain part of the Qrendi FC Youth Nursery family,” the club wrote.

The club also shared a photograph capturing one of Gary’s final moments alongside his teammates, describing it as a memory that will always hold a special place in their hearts.

“Our deepest condolences go to Gary’s family, friends, teammates, and everyone who knew and loved him,” Qrendi FC said. “Rest in peace, Gary. You will never be forgotten.”

Gary’s funeral will be held on Thursday 13th August at 3.30pm at Ħal Safi Parish Church, with his family reportedly asking those attending to wear colourful clothing in his honour.

Our thoughts are with Gary’s family, friends, teammates and everyone who knew and loved him during this difficult time.

Qrendi FC Youth Nursery is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Gary Schembri, who passed away at just 18 after bravely battling illness. Gary was a cherished member of the club’s U17 team, and his presence, spirit and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will forever be remembered as part of the Qrendi family.

One of the final team photos featuring Gary now holds deep significance for his teammates and coaches a reminder of his bright energy, his love for the game and the joy he brought to the squad. The club extended its deepest condolences to Gary’s family, friends, teammates and all who shared moments with him.

Those wishing to pay their last respects may attend Gary’s funeral on Thursday, 13 August at 3:30pm, at Ħal Safi Parish Church. His family kindly requests attendees to wear colourful clothing in honour of Gary’s youth and the positivity he radiated.
