Qormi Hockey Club was founded in 1971 when a group of students from Guze’ Galea Secondary School in Qormi started playing Hockey under coach and then teacher “Chossie” Kerr. Over 40 years have passed and Hockey is still being played, now one of the main sport disciplines in Qormi, as well as one of the major Hockey clubs on the island. Young players used to meet in a garage or in a cellar of Qormi
F.C. until the club settled in the Manwel Dimech Sports Complex where at present we have good facilities to practice our sport. Another stepping stone in the club history was the announcement of the first Hockey Club in Malta to have its own synthetic pitch. Qormi Hockey Club is an active member of the Hockey Association of Malta. Our club has been taking part in the National competitions since 1971. In 1986, the Club won the 1st National league and its first major honour. This was followed by the Knock Out in 1987 and the 2nd National League in 1988. However, the trophy cabinet endured a dry spell for some years, with the exception of the 3rd National League in 1993. The turn of the century saw Qormi Hockey Club invest greatly in its youth teams, and from 2007 onwards, the Club has added greatly to its trophy haul, winning the National League 7 seasons in a row, 3 Knockout Competitions, 4 Challenge Cups, 6 Super Cups, with the highlight being the two EHC Challenge IV, both won on home soil. The Club has also dominated the Junior categories, winning the Reserves League 9 times in 10 years, Under 17 League 11 times in 12 years, Under 14 League 10 times in 11 years, and Under 11 League 8 times in 11 years.
