What an amazing ANZAC Day to mark the culmination of our 10 days on Malta. A moving and memorable ANZAC service followed by a function at the Australian High Commissioners residence. Then onto the Beach Sprint Regatta and finally the farewell dinner. I think everyone will collapse onto the plane for the 30 hours of travelling ahead of us. Very hard to represent in a few photos. A video will follow - at some point...

Flt Sgt Herbert Earney was 22 and on his 17th operational mission of the war when his Wellington Bomber crashed on Malta, shortly after takeoff. All members of the RAF Bomber crew were killed including two other New Zealanders, Sgt Craig of Hunterville and Sgt Donald of Paekakariki. Sgt Earney was buried, with Service Honours, in the Royal Naval Cemetery, Kalkara, Malta. His, is amongst the many graves maintained overseas by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. , , , , , ,

A pretty significant day in the Catholic world yesterday with the passing of The Pope. On the same day we were in a very significant Catholic Cathedral - The Mosta Rotunda. With human occupation in the area dating back to 4000BC, and this buildings predecessor being built in 1575, this is a mere youngster at just under 200 years old. The students (and adults) learnt a lot! There is a National Day of Mourning in Malta today - not sure if it will impact on our plans to visit the Aviation Museum this afternoon.

The Kiwi's joined in with the Aussie's on a working bee at Australia Hall - a historically significant building that was gutted by fire 27 years ago. The aim was to raise the profile of the plight of the building by planting 58 Rosemary bushes - representing the 58,000 injured and sick Servicemen that came through Malta in WW1. Good luck with your fundraising!

An entertainment hall, built in 1915 following a donation from the Australian Red Cross, Australia Hall provided some relief while recuperating in Malta. 58,...
