Si Fu Daniel Portelli began his martial arts journey at the age of 16, initially honing his skills in Ju Jitsu Self-Defence before transitioning to the traditional art of Mon Lung Kung Fu. To Daniel, Kung Fu re
presents its truest definition: achievement through hard work and practice. Under the guidance of Si Fu Charles Gaffiero at Gaffiero’s Kwoon, Daniel dedicated seven years to intensive training, earning his 1st Degree Black Belt. This milestone marked the beginning of a prolific 16-year teaching career. His foundational years as an instructor were spent sharing his knowledge in Sliema under Si Fu Gaffiero for four years, followed by another four years under Si Fu Mark Spiteri in Fleur-de-Lys. Driven by a philosophy of continuous growth, Daniel has never stopped being a student. He expanded his expertise by studying Shaolin Kung Fu and Wing Chun, further diversifying his technical skill set. In 2019, his lifelong dedication was officially recognized with his 2nd Degree Black Belt. For the past eight years, Daniel has been a cornerstone of the Mellieħa martial arts community, where he has established his own teaching practice. He balances his combat training with exceptional physical endurance, having completed 14 half-marathons—a feat he credits as the key to maintaining the peak stamina required for high-level martial arts. His methodology goes beyond physical technique; Daniel is dedicated to helping his students build heightened awareness, self-confidence, and the unwavering discipline that the martial arts instill.
