🏆 BLUE BIRDS LIFT THE TROPHY IN STYLE 💙

The Blue Birds lifted the SSL League trophy last night after a dominant 9-0 victory against Kavalliericf .

No surprises as the league’s top scorer Luke Mifsud broke the deadlock after 10 minutes with a well placed finish. The momentum was firmly in the Blues’ favour from the on, as Andy Spiteri grabbed a goal of his own before Mifsud and Spiteri turned providers, working a beautiful passing move for Jurgen Grech to make the score 3-0 at half time.

The second half saw more of the same, as Mifsud converted 2 quick goals to grab a hat trick, marking his final tally this season at a whopping 25 goals. The Birds put their foot on the gas from there, as flying full backs Griscti and Farrugia both found the net, and Randon drove home a superbly worked team goal. The cherry on the cake in the final minutes came when defender turned striker Gary Bugeja rounded the keeper for his first goal of the summer campaign, closing off a comprehensive 9-0 scoreline.

📆 The boys will enjoy a week off, as 1st place earned them a bye in the quarter finals. The semi final will take place on Tuesday 22nd September, as the Blues aim to become double champions for the second season in a row.

🏆 BLUE BIRDS SEAL LEAGUE TROPHY WITH A GAME TO GO 🐦

Last night the Blue Birds put themselves mathematically out of reach of the rest of the table with a resounding win over CLUB DE SWAT.

The Blues took an early lead, as Barthet poked home a Bugeja shot, before Sansone dribbled past 2 defenders and found the bottom corner to make it 2-0. League top scorer Luke Mifsud was then back in his usual spot, tapping home a Kieran Ferry cross for a whopping 22nd goal of this league campaign. It was then all-time club top scorer Andy Spiteri who rifled home one of his own to take a 4-0 lead into the half.

Club de Swat snagged a couple of goals early in the second half, but the talismanic Sansone took over the game and scored back to back contenders for goal of the season, first dribbling through a packed defence and chipping it home, then scoring directly from kick off to cap off an incredible hat trick. Spiteri then sealed the game with a great strike of his own from distance to make the score 7-4 at the final whistle.

This victory confirms the Blue Birds as champions of the League phase of SSL for the second time in a row since joining the competition last year, building on last year’s success to win the league with a game to spare this time around.

📆 The Blues’ final league game goes down next week against Kavallieri, hoping to finish their trophy winning campaign with a win.

🐦 NEVER COUNT OUT THE BLUE BIRDS 💙

After 13 games, with just 2 games left to go in the league, the Blue Birds have risen to 1st place in the SSL rankings after a win against Beercelona.

This hard-fought and thrilling encounter lived up to the expectations, with Beercelona taking the momentum out of the blocks to take an early 1-0 lead.

However in a moment of magic, Michele Sansone played a perfect through ball through to Barthet, whose saved shot fell right into the feet of top scorer Luke Mifsud to tie the game 1-1 heading into half time.

As energy levels dropped in the second half, the Blues completed their comeback when Andy Spiteri bagged from close range to take the lead. Following a massive team effort, the boys in blue held on to win 2-1 and leapfrog Beercelona in the league table.

📆 The Blues go again next week against Club de Swat in the final stretch of the league as they push towards back to back championships in SSL.

🐦 BLUES EXTEND WINNING STREAK TO 7 GAMES 💙

Last night the Blue Birds climbed to second place, within a point of the top spot, while securing their first clean sheet of the season.

Luke Mifsud opened the scoring early, muscling his defender out of the way before slotting home with his left. Adam Bradshaw then continued his dazzling form, skipping past 2 men and rifling one into the top corner for his 6th goal in 3 games.

Not to be outdone, the Blues’ full backs Tom Griscti and Zak Farrugia then combined for a lovely goal, with the latter latching onto the end of a great cross to continue his fine form in front of goal. Top scorer Mifsud put the game to bed in the second half with a well taken finish, his 10th goal in 4 games and his 20th overall for this SSL campaign.

A special shoutout to defender Kieran Ferry and goalkeeper Samuel Mifsud, who shut the opposition out comprehensively and completed the club’s first clean sheet of the season.

📆 The Blues go again next week against Beercelona in a huge 6 point encounter, as 1st take on 2nd with only a few games left to go.
