一則饒有趣味的故事：

國際象棋特級大師亞歷山大·沙巴洛夫於2026年6月22日至25日，應邀蒞臨澳門國際象棋世界俱樂部。他於6月23日主講了一場關於西西里龍式開局的講座，並於6月24日在座無虛席的俱樂部中心，進行了一場車輪戰表演賽。

沙巴洛夫是一位棋藝精湛且極富創造力的棋手，曾位列世界第29位，最高等級分達2645分；他多次贏得美國全國冠軍及美國公開賽冠軍，並多次入選美國國家隊；曾五度奪得世界公開賽冠軍（1997、1999、2003、2007及2012年），於2024年榮膺世界元老錦標賽冠軍，並於2015年入選美國國際象棋名人堂。

6月22日中午，在參加完香港2026年世界團體快棋及超快棋錦標賽後，他抵達澳門。令人驚喜的是，與他一同乘噴射飛航而來的，還有另外兩位著名的國際象棋特級大師——他的「環球漫遊者」隊友：

女子特級大師安娜·扎通斯基：
最高國際棋聯等級分2537，四度榮膺美國女子國際象棋冠軍；

以及特級大師亞歷山大·莫蒂廖夫：
最高國際棋聯等級分2710，曾位列世界第23位；2001年俄羅斯冠軍；2014年歐洲冠軍，該次表現分高達驚人的2872分……

我們很快便帶他們前往大三巴牌坊拍照留念，然後才共進午餐。

這座舉世聞名的聯合國教科文組織世界文化遺產——大三巴牌坊遺址，其立面與石階，堪稱澳門的城市象徵：由耶穌會士於1602年至1640年間建造，後因颱風引發大火而焚毀；雄偉的石砌立面矗立於小山崗上，前臨六十八級石階，氣勢恢宏。

令人嘖嘖稱奇的是——我們和他們都未曾料到——竟在石階上巧遇另外兩位正在拍照的世界頂尖特級大師：

傳奇國際象棋特級大師亞歷山德拉·科斯堅紐克：
2008至2010年女子世界冠軍、2021年首屆女子世界盃冠軍、2021年底女子世界快棋錦標賽冠軍、2024年歐洲女子超快棋冠軍；最高國際棋聯等級分2561；

及其丈夫特級大師帕維爾·特列古博夫：
最高國際棋聯等級分2658，2000年歐洲冠軍，既是世界級棋手，亦是職業國際象棋幕後極具影響力的聲音。

我們不禁遐想，他們是否恰好在第六十四級台階相遇？棋盤正好有六十四格，以及三十二枚棋子與兵……

我們非常高興能邀請並款待他們，在獨特而別具標誌性的百年葡式餐廳「A Vencedora」共進午餐（依我們淺見，這裡擁有全世界最美味的葡式水煮馬介休菜單）。

午宴後，女子特級大師安娜·扎通斯基與特級大師亞歷山大·莫蒂廖夫隨即啟程前往香港機場搭機離去。

當晚，我們在歷史長達一百五十年的澳門陸軍俱樂部，為三位傳奇特級大師舉辦了一場歡迎晚宴，邀請了一眾摯友與家人同歡。我們在君士坦丁·別斯梅爾特內的宏偉畫作前拍攝了團體照，畫中場景描繪了2008年電影《007：量子危機》——畫中，英國外交大臣手持酒杯，向身旁的一位樞機主教抱怨主人品味欠佳，低聲咕噥道：「如果他請不起像樣的魚子醬，就不該請人來。」而拿破崙的身影也隱約閃現其中。

儘管我們沒有提供魚子醬，也無燕尾服或黑領結；但我們萬分欣喜地看到，所有賓客都對我們豐盛奢華、極盡地主之誼的款待讚不絕口！多款佳釀搭配多道佳餚，由頂尖葡萄牙名廚為剛於數日前圓滿結束的「葡國美食週」精心設計。

A very interesting story:

Chess Grand Master Alexander Shabalov was hosted by our Macau Chess World Club from 22 to 25 June 2026.

He kindly gave a lecture on the Sicilian Dragon Opening, on the 23rd June, and a Simultaneous Chess Exhibition on the 24th June, at our full house MCWC club centre.

He is a superb and creative chess player, once ranked World number 29th, peak rating 2645; he was USA and USA Open champion, and USA team member, in multiple years; he was World Open Champion five times (1997, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2012), was World Seniors Champion in 2024; and entered into the U.S. Chess Hall of Fame in 2015.

On June 22, he arrived at noon to Macau, after participating at the Hong Kong 2026 World Teams Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, and amazingly, two more famous Chess Grand Masters arrived on the TurboJet with him:

- Peak FIDE Rating: 2537, U.S. Women's Chess Champion four times;

and GM Alexander Motylev:
-Peak FIDE Rating 2710, World No. 23 ; Russian Champion (2001); and European Champion (2014)with an astonishing performance rating of 2872…

We took them shortly to the Saint Paul Church Façade for a photo, before lunch.

The famous UNESCO World Heritage Site Ruins of St. Paul’s Church, a Façade and stairs, serves as the definitive symbol of the city: it was built by the Jesuits from 1602 to 1640, destroyed by a fire during a typhoon; its monumental stone façade stands atop a small hill, accessed by a grand staircase of 68 stone steps.

Astonishingly, - to us, and them, - they met two other World Top Grand Masters making photos at the stairs:

Legendary Chess Grand Master Alexandra Kosteniuk:
Women’s World Champion (2008–2010), Inaugural Women's World Cup Champion (2021) , Women's World Rapid Championship in late 2021, European Women's Blitz Champion in 2024;Peak FIDE Rating: 2561;

and her husband GM Pavel Tregubov:
Peak FIDE Rating: 2658, European Champion (2000), a world-class competitor and an influential voice behind the scenes of professional chess.

We wonder if they met at the step 64? A Chess board holds 64 squares and 32 moving pieces and pawns…

We were happy to invite and host them for lunch at the unique and iconic century old Portuguese food restaurant A Vencedora;(which has in our modest opinion the best Portuguese style boiled codfish dish menu in the World).

WGM Anna Zatonski and GM Alexander Motylev then left to Hong Kong Airport for their flights.

And in the evening we hosted the three legendary Grand Masters at a welcome reception dinner with some of our best friends and family, at the century and half old Macau Military Club.
We made a group picture in front of Konstantin Bessmertny grandiose painting depicting 007 James Bond Quantum of Solace (2008) movie, where The British Foreign Secretary, standing with a drink in hand, complains to his companion, a Cardinal in the painting, -where Napoleon also shows somehow, -about the host's lack of taste, muttering: "If he can't afford decent caviar, he shouldn't invite people."

Though we didn’t offer caviar, and there were no Tuxedos nor black ties; we were very glad to see that all our guests were delighted with our princely and sumptuous hospitality! A formula of multiple wines to mate a menu of multiple dishes created by top famous Portuguese Chefs for The Portuguese Cuisine Week that had just ended.
