Eid-ul-Adha or Bakri Eid/Bakrid is a festival of sacrifice and eternal faith in the Almighty celebrated by Muslims across the world. This year, the holy day of Eid-ul-Adha or Bakrid will begin in the evening of Thursday, 30 July, and will continue till Saturday, August 01, 2020. The date and timing of the festival may vary in some places.
The Eid-ul-Adha festival is celebrated to mark the unshakeable obedience and faith of Ibrahim (Abraham) in the almighty Allah. Ibrahim, a dutiful devotee of Allah, sought to sacrifice his only son on Allah’s wish. However, after seeing his unfaltering devotion, Allah intervened and asked him to sacrifice a lamb instead of his son. Hence, Muslims on the day of Eid-ul-Adha sacrifice Bakri (goat).
The day of Eid-ul-Adha also marks the culmination of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest of Muslim cities.
