Chicken Fried Steak
Chicken Fried Steak is pure Southern comfort โ the kind of meal that fills the kitchen with warm memories and makes everyone rush to the table. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and smothered in creamy pepper gravy, it tastes like something Grandma made after a long day, when love was served on a plate. One bite and youโre right back in her cozy kitchen.
Ingredients
For the steak:
4 cube steaks
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
2 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
Vegetable oil for frying
For the gravy:
3 tablespoons reserved pan drippings
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
Season the cube steaks with salt and pepper.
In a shallow bowl, mix flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk.
Dredge each steak in the flour mixture, then dip it into the egg mixture, then back into the flour. Press the coating on firmly.
Heat about 1/4 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Fry the steaks for 3โ4 minutes per side, until golden and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
To make the gravy, keep 3 tablespoons of the drippings in the pan. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
Slowly add the milk, whisking constantly until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
Pour the warm gravy over the crispy steaks.
Serve with mashed potatoes, green beans, or biscuits for the full Southern comfort experience.
