Camino Derrick has been coached by us for a few years.

He has mastered distance and terrain and been successful in every ultra we’ve done together. So whilst some of the elements of MDS may not have concerned Derrick his attention to detail and specific training for the multi-staged desert adventure showed all the same level of care and passion.

We are always learning things as coaches. We loved coaching Anna Brown to her MDS desert adventures and we loved experiencing new things with Derrick.

We asked him to share all the warts from his version and we are grateful we can share with all you Caminos. If you are considering this race for 2027 or similar multi-staged ultras and want to have a chat about how we can help - DM us and let’s enjoy some wild successes together.

As we observe one of the highest levels of DNF in this weekends Arc of Attrition our thoughts are still on this years epic Winter Spine

Two of our alltime favourite Caminos Anson and Ruden stepped up to take on the 268 miles of the Pennine Way - having been faithful finishers of previous years Sprint and Challenger versions.

We are truly grateful to them both for sharing their DNF stories.

Never an easy thing to do.

However their beautiful words serve as a great set of tools and wisdom for all of us considering a big step up in the ultra endurance arena. As our friend has observed it’s getting all too easy to see others achieve impressive things but without the context of what’s needed to be able to attempt them ourselves.

So brew up a tasty coffee and sink in to the magical winter stories from our legendary friends.

Shortly Camino Coaching will share details of our ‘Camino Adventure Fund’ which is a fully supported package for the recipients to take on their dream adventures like the Arc and Spine x

If you are considering taking part in these events in 2027 and want to chat to Camino coaches about this then DM us to set up a call.

UK Our fifth Trails Taster with Black Trail Runners and this one was special ✨
This time, we stepped into the dark.

With Petzl lighting the way, we learned how to use head torches properly, built night-running skills, and explored how confidence grows when you trust your feet, your senses, and the people around you.

Then we headed out together into the beautiful depths of Epping Forest — running side by side under the glow of our head torches, moving quietly through the trails, and yes… hugging a tree or two 🌲

Night running isn’t about fear.
It’s about connection, curiosity, and discovering what you’re capable of when the lights go down.

Huge thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a powerful evening 💛

To be alive: not just the carcass
But the spark.
That’s crudely put, but…
If we’re not supposed to dance,
Why all this music?

Back to dance in the Camino way

For those of you familiar with Camino Ultra will know Peter Thomason. .thomason

Peter can be found in the photo diaries of Camino’s first ever event. He’s taken on all of our event series and this year he was the stand-out winner of our London 100.

In January he was the strongest at the Longbridge Backyard (before a work flight meant his time was up) in the summer he raced favourite Ryan Whelan all the way at Centurions 100 mile North Downs Way (Pete was second in a performance that put him in Top 10 all-time for the 103 mile format).

So after another impressive race year was there room for one more epic performance?

Peter decided not to race the Sri Chimoy 24 hour in late September due to a feeling that more recovery was needed from NDW and so the decision was made to race the 200 mile Winter Downs event. When the race preview came out it was clear that there were easily half a dozen really strong candidates for this one - however when you toe the line for your first ever 200 miler you need to ensure that you don’t become an early stage casualty and do everything within your skills to finish.

So how did Mr Camino do?

Well luckily for us the weather is perfect for a blog read and a good cup of tea - Big thank you to Pete for sharing his race reflections with us - a good insight for anyone looking to go longer than 100 miles and for winter time adventures.

Do you fancy a 200 miler? Which ones are on your radar?

🔗 link to donate in bio

Hackney has the second highest levels of child deprivation and deprivation among older people in England. In the lead up to Christmas, Hackney Foodbank will support more than 1000 people.

In addition to providing emergency food parcels, Hackney Foodbank offers support with housing, benefits, grants and debt advice, helping address the root causes of poverty.

More than half of the people they support don’t need to return for emergency food.

Don’t forget to add Gift Aid to your donations, to mean you money works even harder.

Giving money enables Hackney Foodbank buy what they need, when we need it and at wholesale prices, and fund the extra case work support tackling poverty at the root of the issue.

Please give what you can - together we can ensure no-one in our community goes hungry this winter.

For the 12th year running, the Local Buyers Club ‘Winter Toy Appeal’ is collecting new toys for children experiencing extreme hardship in North and East London.

Without this appeal, many wouldn’t receive a gift at Christmas.

Last year, thanks to your kindness, we provided new toys for thousands of children experiencing hardship and generated much-needed trade for independent shops.

Please give what you can and help make sure no child goes without this winter.

The appeal closes on 16th December.
