Projekts “Active Sustainability” turpinājās Kuivižos ar kopīgu jūras piekrastes sakopšanu un jauniešu sadarbību
No 14. līdz 16. jūnijam Kuivižos, Latvijā, turpinājās starptautiskais projekts “Active Sustainability”, kura ietvaros jaunieši no Latvijas un Igaunijas apvienojās, lai veicinātu tīrāku jūras vidi un labāk izprastu ar Baltijas jūru saistītos vides izaicinājumus.
Ja pirmā tikšanās notika Sērvē, Sāremā, tad šoreiz igauņu jauniešus uzņēma Latvijas partneri no Salacgrīvas un Kuivižiem. Tikšanās galvenās tēmas bija jūras atkritumi, piekrastes aizsardzība, ilgtspējīga rīcība un sadarbība starp Latvijas un Igaunijas jauniešiem.
Trīs dienu laikā dalībnieki iesaistījās dažādās praktiskās vides aktivitātēs, darbnīcās un kopīgās diskusijās. Jaunieši veica piekrastes vides novērojumus un jūras atkritumu savākšanu, vācot un šķirojot atkritumus Kuivižu piekrastē un tās apkārtnē. Tāpat tika diskutēts par jūras atkritumu izcelsmi, to ietekmi uz Baltijas jūru un iespējām novērst atkritumu nonākšanu dabā.
Liela uzmanība tika pievērsta arī izglītojošām aktivitātēm. Dalībnieki analizēja savāktos atkritumus, dalījās novērojumos, diskutēja par ikdienas paradumu ietekmi uz jūras vidi un jauktās komandās izstrādāja idejas, kuras iespējams īstenot savās kopienās, skolās un sporta klubos. Būtiska tikšanās daļa bija arī Latvijas un Igaunijas jauniešu savstarpējā komunikācija, starpkultūru pieredzes apmaiņa un jaunu draudzību veidošana.
Viens no projekta galvenajiem mērķiem ir ne tikai sakopt piekrasti, bet arī veicināt jauniešu izpratni par jūras piesārņojuma cēloņiem un sekām. Projekta ietvaros jaunieši tiek aicināti apzināties, kā viņu ikdienas izvēles ietekmē Baltijas jūru, un kļūt par atbildīgiem vides aizstāvjiem gan šodien, gan nākotnē.
Pateicamies visiem jauniešiem, instruktoriem un projekta partneriem, kuri iesaistījās aktivitāšu īstenošanā Kuivižos. Šādas tikšanās sniedz jauniešiem iespēju mācīties, pamanīt problēmas, rīkoties un veidot pārrobežu draudzības, kuru ietekme sniedzas daudz tālāk par vienu sakopšanas dienu vai darbnīcu.

The “Active Sustainability” Project Continued in Kuiviži with a Joint Coastal Clean-up and Youth Cooperation
From 14 to 16 June, the international project “Active Sustainability” continued in Kuiviži, Latvia, bringing together young people from Latvia and Estonia to contribute to a cleaner marine environment and gain a better understanding of environmental challenges related to the Baltic Sea.
While the first meeting took place in Sõrve, Saaremaa, this time the Estonian participants were hosted by Latvian partners from Salacgrīva and Kuiviži. The main themes of the meeting were marine litter, coastal protection, sustainable behaviour, and cooperation between Latvian and Estonian youth.
During the three-day event, participants took part in various practical environmental activities, workshops, and discussions. The young people carried out coastal environmental observations and marine litter clean-up activities, collecting and sorting waste found along the Kuiviži coastline and surrounding areas. They also discussed the origins of marine litter, its impact on the Baltic Sea, and ways to prevent waste from entering nature.
Special attention was given to educational activities. Participants analysed the collected waste, shared their observations, discussed how everyday habits affect the marine environment, and worked in mixed teams to develop ideas that could be implemented in their local communities, schools, and sports clubs. An important part of the meeting was also communication between Latvian and Estonian youth, intercultural exchange, and the development of new friendships.
One of the main goals of the project is not only to clean coastal areas but also to increase young people’s awareness of the causes and consequences of marine pollution. Through the project, young people are encouraged to understand how their everyday choices affect the Baltic Sea and to become responsible environmental stewards both today and in the future.
We would like to thank all the young participants, instructors, and project partners who contributed to the activities in Kuiviži. Meetings like these provide young people with opportunities to learn, recognise environmental challenges, take action, and build cross-border friendships whose impact extends far beyond a single clean-up event or workshop.
