В юности Женя Петерсон была экзальтированной особой — «восторженной гимназисткой», которую привлекало все необычное: идеи, вещи, путешествия. Увлечение Индией пришло внезапно. В предреволюционной России издавались книги йога Рамачараки, и однажды друг Жени вслух читал «Четырнадцать уроков по философии йоги и научному оккультизму». Женя внимательно слушала и вдруг неожиданно для себя порывисто воскликнула: «Я должна ехать в Индию!» В ответ друг захлопнул книгу и нравоучительно произнес: «Вы слишком эмоциональны, дитя мое!»

Наверное, в этот момент произошло нечто важное. Возможно, она услышала в словах своего старшего товарища вызов и решила идти наперекор. А может, это была судьба?..
