Brief History of Samira Football Club
Samira Football Club currently play in the Second Division League of the Liberia Football Association, (LFA). The team began its journey at the Sinkor Sub Committee as a participating member in the annual national league of the LFA. Founded in July 2010 within the Sinkor community, the essence was and relatively still is to keep the young people together as a
social group, organizing events mostly related to sports and other positive social activities that bring the young people together on holidays and other times. Later the same year, the team’s current president gathered the group and some prominent residents of the community and sought their support to have representation in the National League. The scouting process for additional players began and SAMIRA FC was officially entered into the registry of the Liberia Football Association. The team took on the name Samira after an election was held to select a name. Samira Elle Sirleaf is a member of the President’s Family. The team was registered to participate in the 2010/2011 LFA National league at the 3rd division level with the Sinkor Sub Committee. Less than six months after the team was founded, and by the end of that season, the team became the knockout champions and was among the first five teams that qualified for the National Play Off in central Monrovia. The team again registered in the 3rd division national league, with the Sinkor Sub Committee, for the 2012 leagues. By the end of the 1st phase of the league, Samira FC qualified to play the 2nd phase. The Scoring scorpion ended the league having more goals, than any other team in the League, Along with another club, Samira Football Club were sent to represent the Sinkor Sub Committee at the 2012 LFA National Playoff games, making their 2nd appearance in 2 years. With four games played, SFC won a game, lost a game and drew 2. In the final game, the club proved supremacy coming from 2 – 0 down to score 2 goals in 3 minutes. The Team currently has 35 1st team players, with several other players still being nurtured by the team. Samira FC are run by a structure of officials, and some of the Community Elders and prominent residents are on the Advisory Board. Sirleaf, and he currently serves as the President. Barshea is the Vice President for Administration, while Sie A. Wilson has served as the Vice President for International Cooperation since his appointment in January, 2022. The Technical Staff include Coaches Eric B. Roberts and Mohammed K. Richard K. Kanneh is the Acting Team Manager and Administrative Officer to the Chief Executive. Our interest is to give the young people, those with the passion for sports, an opportunity to make their lives better, improve their skills and hopefully to keep them out of the day to day tussle that most of the young people have to go through.
