Lee Dennis, a young Liberian runner, who hails from Maryland, crossed the finish line behind three Sierra Leoneans to finished 4th in the Liberia Marathon and 1st From Liberia.
Dennis, who has been running competitively since his teenage years, has been training rigorously for this event for the past months. He credited his success to his dedicated training style and strong determination to represent his community and country at large to make a name for himself in the sport.
"I am honored and proud to be the first Liberian to finish at the half Liberia Marathon," Dennis said. "I have been working hard for this moment and I am happy to be able to make my country proud."
The half Liberia Marathon, which is part of the Liberia Marathon series, attracts top athletes from outside of Liberia.
Dennis hopes that his achievement will inspire other Liberians to take up running and participate in future races.
"I want to encourage my fellow Liberians to get involved in sports, especially running," he said.
Dennis now has his sights set on participating in other international marathons and representing Liberia in future competitions. He hopes to bring home more medals and accolades for his country in the years to come.
