Ruhunu vijayaba College, as per the Education Ministry classification, is an IAB category National School.An IAB category school has classes from Grade 1 (or atleast Grade 5) up to Grade 13. Ruhunu Vijayaba College has classes from Grade 1 to Grade 13. All grades conduct classes in Sinhala medium . The English medium was introduced toGrade 6 in 2008 .Advanced Level grades conduct classes in Bio-Science,Physical Science, Commerce and Arts, which include aesthetics and Informationcommunication Technology. Being a government school, Ruhunu Vijayaba College followsgovernment educational policy. ADMISSION
Admissionof students to Ruhunu Vijayaba College is at 3 levels. Nearly 250 children are selected for admission at the Grade 1level. Selections are strictly made in the terms of the circular issued by the Ministry of Education. About 40 Sinhala medium and 25 English medium students are selected on the basis of the year 5 Bursaries and PlacementExamination. The third and final level of admission is at Grade 12. A small number of students are admitted depending on the number of vacancies based on their Ordinary Level results, sports and other achievements.Priority is also given to students who do not have Advanced Level facilities in their current schools. Ruhunu Vijayaba College boasts of an impressive infrastructure spanning over 23 acres. In addition to several long standing structural features, several new buildings have been added to the Ruhunu Vijayaba Collegelist of facilities. A complete Information Technology centre is the latest addition to the college facilities of over 5Scientific Laboratories for A/L and O/L sections, Main Hall and the like.
