In the All Island Chess Championship, which was held by the Mayor Chess Club, our teammate Hasitha Herath from level 2 was able to take home the trophy for the best on board 2 -open event.

Sasith Nipun Wins the Gold Medal in Asian Youth!

It is a historic day for Sri Lankan Chess. Sasith Nipun Piyumantha of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda won the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2018 -under 16 Open Gold medal today at Ching Mai, Thailand. This is the 1st time in Asian Chess history that a Sri Lankan Player received the highest medal at any age group at an Asian Youth Championship.

On behalf of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka I congratulate Sasith for bringing honour to Sri Lanka at this highest level and wish him all the best for his future career! We wish you to be our 1st Grand Master Sasith.

I take this opportunity to thank his parents who are contributing a lot from long years for supporting for his Career. I know there are a great support from His school, Dharmasoka College, Specially from the Principal and teachers with past and present Chess Players of school. We salute all of you for this achievement.

The Coaches including Gihan Kanchana De Silva had done a great job towards making him. Finally, Grand Master Dymtro Komorov brought us the confident and knowledge. Your support towards Sri Lanka Chess is great!

I request from all well wishers of Chess in Sri Lanka to support Sasith as well as few other promising Chess Players to get the Sri Lanka's 1st GM soon.

Thank you very much Sasith for making us proud!
