Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association (SLUSA) was established in 1980. But in 1969 to 1980 it served development of University Spots as the Ceylon Universities Sports Association. Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association, commonly referred as the SLUSA, is the sports governing body of the Sri Lankan university system. With its inception by the renowned sportsman & the great educationist, Mr.

Lesley Handunge in 1980, the SLUSA has been doing a pioneering role to develop the university sports. Since then, the SLUSA caters to all the national universities that fall under the Universities Act No.16 of 1978 and undergraduates Admission Selection by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. All the Directors of Physical Education and Instructors in Physical Education in member Universities are members of Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association. These all DPEs and IPEs are doing volunteer service to uplift Sports and Physical Education activities of University system. The Executive Committee of the SLUSA comprises Director Physical Education/Officer in-charge of the Department of Physical Education/ Physical Education Unit and one Instructor of Physical Education from each Member University.

Through immersive workshops and seminars, participants dive deep into the world of international university sports, gaining essential skills to effectively manage volunteer programs. Whether you represent a national or continental university sports federation, the FVLA equips you with the tools needed to drive positive change back home.

Upon completion, FVLA graduates become FISU Student Ambassadors, leading initiatives to promote university sports development locally and globally. Exceptional performers may also unlock prestigious internship and scholarship opportunities, such as the FISU International Volunteer Programme and FISU Student Springboard Programme.

Key Facts:
🕒 Duration: Up to 7 days onsite or 3 days online.
🌍 Scale: Average 110 participants from 90+ countries.
📅 Frequency: Held annually since 2017.
🎓 Participants: Under 25 students globally.

FISU World Forum: Shaping the Future of University Sports

Every two years, the world of university sports comes alive with vibrant discussions, innovative ideas, and transformative initiatives at the FISU World Forum. Alternating with the FISU World University Games, this gathering serves as a nexus for students, officials, and key partners involved in the University Sport Movement, alongside FISU Member Associations.

The FISU World Forum isn't just a conference. It's a dynamic platform where academic sessions intersect with cultural, educational, and sporting activities. This unique blend fosters an environment ripe for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity building across the university sports community. From workshops on key themes to project management sessions, young leaders are empowered to shape the future of university sports.

Since its inception in 1992, the FISU World Forum has evolved into a global phenomenon, spanning four continents and attracting around 2800 participants. Each edition focuses on a central theme, supplemented by sub-themes to delve deeper into specific areas of interest. The latest edition, held in 2022 in Costa Rica, explored the theme "University Sport as a Driver for Sustainable Development," touching upon crucial topics like health, education, gender equality, and reducing inequalities.

Looking ahead to the next edition in Zagreb 2024, the spotlight will be on "University Sport: Creating a Better World." Diverse and inclusive, the forum will explore themes such as fostering gender equality, leveraging sports diplomacy for global relations, and promoting accessibility in university sports.

The impact of the FISU World Forum extends far beyond its five-day duration. It serves as a catalyst for positive change, inspiring participants to drive innovation, advocate for inclusivity, and champion the transformative power of university sports. The Annual General Meeting 2024 of Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association was successfully held on 30th of January 2024 at the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka.
Dr. W.M.S.Fenando, Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka was elected as the President of Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association.
Mr. S.U. Wijesinghe, Director of Physical Education, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka was elected as the Secretary General of Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association.
Under mentioned list of office bearers were elected unanimously.
