Ruhunu Sailing Association in Sri Lanka - RSA

Ruhunu Sailing Association in Sri Lanka - RSA Ruhunu Sailing Association is a non profit training entity that trains local youth for sailing as a sport.

The Ruhunu Sailing Assocation is a NON PROFIT organization that was set up in 2006 in Sri Lanka. It has the objective to develop sailing sports at grass root level for underprivileged boys and girls aged between 8 and 16 years from tsunami affected areas. The idea is to develop in them a passion for this sport and make them aware of the marine treasures of the seas and shores around Sri Lanka. If

they find a vocation in coastal activities they will have the necessary baggage to become responsible, trained and ecologically well-aware professionals. 5 sailing centers were set up along the southern coast of Sri Lanka providing free of cost sailing training to 180 youth. Training is provided by Sri Lankan experts in sailing. Competitions are regularly organized with the Royal Colombo Yacht Club.

The Building A Future Foundation BE is proud to announce that the King Baudouin Foundation of Belgium supports its new project of creation of a training centre in the Northern part of Sri Lanka, Poonakari. A region that was severely affected by the civil war from 1983 to 2009. The aim is to train 10 youths year 1, 10 youths year 2 and at term 30 Tamil youths per year and to provide them a sustainable employment with the development of the yachting industry in this remote and untapped tropical region. The idea is to reproduce in the North the same successful model that the Building A Future Foundation has materialised on the Southern coast of the island with the creation of hundreds of employment for local youth in the yachting industry. Today Building A Future.BE is looking for donations to build the training center and to equip the workshops.
