Viva St. Peter's College.
𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝟏𝟎𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 to St. Peter's College and to all Peterites! Rev. Fr. Maurice James Le Goc a Frenchman, who can be described as an author, intellect, educationist, architect, astronomer, and botanist other than being the fourth Rector of St. Joseph’s College (1919-1940) purchased a block of land at the southernmost end of Bambalapitiya adjoining the Wellawatte canal in 1919, and he designed the buildings himself and construction began on 7th July 1921 for a new school as a solution to accommodate the growing demand of student admissions that he could not cope at his school, St. Joseph’s College. On the 18th of January 1922, the school ‘St. Joseph’s College, Colombo South’ was opened with a gala ceremony in the presence of a large gathering of distinguished guests. Also, in attendance were students from St. Joseph’s College who travelled from train, Maradana to Bambalapitiya waving ‘Blue & White’ flags.
On 16th of June 1926, His Grace, the Archbishop of Colombo, on the suggestion of the Dept. of Education, sanctioned the separation of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo South and Rev. Fr. D.J. Nicholas Perera was appointed Principal of the school. On the 29th of June 1927, the school became known as St. Peter’s College and Rev. Fr. Nicholas Perera was appointed Rector. Built on a vision of Rev. Fr. Maurice J Le Goc, with a strong foundation laid by Rev. Fr. Nicholas Perera and steered forward for a century of excellence by successive Rectors St. Peter’s College has moulded generations of Peterites under the Catholic education filled with 'Virtue & Truth'. Here’s wishing for a continuous blessed journey and providing holistic education to the future generations of Peterites to steer the nation whilst contributing to society, humanity, and the world as worthy Sri Lankans in true Peterite Spirit!
