Even with the postponement, our SL-A Mini class dominator, Ajith Keerthi who holds records at Eliyakanda and Kotmale, couldnโ€™t resist making a trip up the hills to visit the tracks. Weโ€™re sure he was eager to add a few more records in Nuwara Eliya, but unfortunately, things didnโ€™t go as planned this time. Ajith, we hope you enjoyed your trip to the hills and the cool weather away from the scorching heat across the rest of the country.

The two iconic hill climbs in the beautiful hills of Nuwara Eliya, Mahagasthota and Single Tree were unfortunately postponed due to the current global situation affecting Sri Lanka, particularly fuel restrictions. The events were originally scheduled for April 4โ€“5 (Mahagasthota) and April 5โ€“6 (Single Tree).

We remain hopeful that Ceylon Motor Sports Club and SLARDAR will soon be able to reschedule and successfully organize these much-anticipated events once the situation improves.

Chenuka Caldera ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฐ secured 2nd place in the championship standings after Round 1, following an impressive performance at the SBM Track & Trophy 2026 held from 27th to 29th March at Bira Circuit. Competing in the highly competitive Super Sport 500cc - Class C category, he rode a Yamaha R3 against a grid of 11 riders, many with greater experience, higher engine capacities, and more track time at Bira.

During qualifying, riders aim to set their fastest lap times to determine their starting positions for the main race. Bonus points are awarded based on qualifying performance. However, these points do not influence PARC FERMร‰ results or race-day rankings at that circuit. Instead, they are added solely to the overall championship standings.

Accordingly, Chenuka maintained a strong position by earning 3 points during qualifying and 15 points in the race, bringing his total for the round to 18 points and boosting his place in the championship standings.

To further elevate the competition, it has been announced that the final round of the series will feature a points multiplier (ร—2). This is expected to intensify the contest and introduce greater variability in the overall championship outcome.

It is yet to be confirmed whether Chenuka will compete in all three rounds of the SBM Track & Trophy 2026 series. The second round is scheduled for 3rd to 5th July, with the final round from 6th to 8th November. We remain hopeful of seeing him represent Sri Lanka throughout the championship and continue delivering strong performances.

Chenuka Caldera ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฐ secured the 2nd runner-up at Bira Circuit, delivering an outstanding performance at the SBM Track & Trophy 2026 - Round 1 held from 27th to 29th March. Competing in the highly competitive Super Sport 500cc - Class C category, Chenuka rode a Yamaha R3 against a grid of 11 riders, many with greater experience, higher engine displacements and more track time at Bira.

In the qualifying session on 28th March, Chenuka demonstrated immediate pace and control, securing P3 with a lap time of 1:19.450, just 0.721 seconds off pole position. This strong qualifying result highlighted an impressive ability to quickly learn and adapt, especially considering it was his first time racing at this circuit.

During the race, Chenuka showed consistency, race intelligence, and confidence under pressure, ultimately finishing on the podium as the 2nd runner-up. He further improved his performance by setting a personal fastest lap time of 1:18.625, a clear indication of his growing comfort and speed on the track.

What makes this achievement particularly remarkable is that this was Chenukaโ€™s debut at Bira Circuit, where he managed to adapt to the layout within just three days. Additionally, he stands out as one of the few riders competing in a category above 250cc outside Sri Lanka, making his podium finish even more significant.

It is yet to be confirmed whether Chenuka will compete in the full SBM Track & Trophy 2026 series, which consists of three race rounds. The second round is scheduled to take place from 3rd to 5th July, followed by the final round from 6th to 8th November. We remain hopeful of seeing Chenuka represent Sri Lanka across the entire championship, as we are confident in his ability to deliver strong and promising results.

The 2026 FIA Formula 3 Championship calendar was impacted by a combination of planned updates and unexpected global events.

One of the key scheduled changes came from Formula One. A new street circuit in Madrid was added to the F1 calendar, replacing Imola, and as a support series, F3 followed suit. This led to a reshuffling of the European rounds and a new season finale in Spain.

However, the more significant disruption came from the cancellation of the Bahrain round. Due to escalating tensions linked to the Iranโ€“Israel conflict escalation (2026), the FIA removed Bahrain from the calendar on safety grounds. This decision affected all support series, including F3.

As a result, the in-season test scheduled for March 25th - 27th at the Bahrain International Circuit was also cancelled. The test was intended to give teams and drivers valuable additional running early in the season, but it became unfeasible due to the same security and logistical concerns.

In summary, while some calendar changes were planned as part of F1โ€™s evolution, the cancellation of Bahrain and the associated test was driven by safety considerations, leaving teams with reduced track time in 2026.

The revised 2026 calendar is as follows:
Round 1: 6โ€“8 March - Albert Park Circuit ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ
Round 2: 4โ€“7 June - Circuit de Monaco ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡จ
Round 3: 12โ€“14 June - Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ
Round 4: 26โ€“28 June - Red Bull Ring ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡น
Round 5: 3โ€“5 July - Silverstone Circuit ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง
Round 6: 17โ€“19 July - Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ช
Round 7: 24โ€“26 July - Hungaroring ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡บ
Round 8: 4โ€“6 September - Monza Circuit ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น
Round 9: 11โ€“13 September - Madring (Madrid Street Circuit) ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ

However, we hope global tensions ease and peace spreads across the world, allowing time for healing. We also look forward to seeing Sri Lankaโ€™s Yevan David take on the remaining nine rounds with confidence and deliver strong results.
